Line 6 Helix Stadium Pre-Launch Discussion

You and I may be the only 2 persons in the whole wide world to actually like the (later) factory presets.

I came to the HX at 2.5 (I guess) and even then I could never get the hate for the factory presets. Some were great, some were okay, some were meh. Just what I would expect from a preset made by another person , with another guitar (probably), for another genre (probably) and with another playback system (probably).

So, yes, show us the factory presets!
Over the last handful of releases I frequently used the factory presets for the relevant new amp models as a starting point. I always wind up basically building the same preset template around it and finally wound up sticking with the template and dropping different amps in with the default settings and tweaking to taste. I've mentioned it before but I sometimes like the challenge of working with a preset that initially "isn't my thing" and seeing what I can change about my playing to attempt to get something decent out of the preset. A few I downloaded from customtone were pretty hopeless, but most of the factory ones I could get something decent out of even when they weren't what I'd dial up on my own. So rather than infringing on DI's trademark and saying all presets suck, I say all presets present a challenge, some more than others.

I wonder if the presets will have been tweaked the old fashioned way or with Focus view? For example, if there was a chime-themed Vox preset with a bit of delay and a certain kind of spring reverb you’re putting 3 blocks in the chain. If you open those blocks, are you going to see the focus slider bang in the middle for each module (indicating the person making it tweaked the knobs) or will the person making it have embraced the new and just dragged that slider? I’ll guess we know when we look at the presets.

Some specific questions @Digital Igloo

1. I assume there's enough processing power to process vocals independently (with autotune maaaaaaaybe?) and split the XLR outs to keep the vocal and guitar chains separate to FOH? With the ability to run Poly on guitars as well, simultaneously?

2. Would running light shows/DMX tasks be done via the MIDI out port to some sort of breakout box/converter? Or how would that connect to fixtures?

Y'all may be the only 2 persons in the whole wide world who actually have the (later) factory presets. Anyone restoring after a post-update backup restores the factory presets active when they bought the unit. We fixed that issue with Stadium—Factory presets are locked in and can't be overwritten, which means we can update, improve, add, and delete Factory presets at any time without affecting anyone's User presets.

  1. There better be, given that Helix could this too. No Autotune tho'.
  2. Yes, just MIDI-to-DMX. There's no lighting-specific functionality built into Stadium.

Guy wins the lottery by getting a $2200 modeler before anyone else on the planet and then creates the absolute worst demo video he possibly could by recording through a phone.

This is why Line6 has been careful to not just give these to every influencer who raises their hands.

A random guy get a modeler I want sooner than me? I demand he records a professional demo! :pitchforks:pitchforks

:guiness

Some of you are really weird. Hope you're not like that in real life, for the sake of the people who are around you :wat

Did anyone say it should have been a professional demo?

He has the tools to record clips direct instead of cell phone from a studio monitor. Why not use them?

I don't think it was an insane suggestion.....

Insane is to think he has to, for whatever reason, do things to anyone's standard given he is just a random dude who happened, by sheer accident, to receive a product sooner than most.

What’s weird is your reading comprehension problem. Karl didn’t say he requires a professional demo. We all just think it’s dumb to record a recorded tone, through a phone.

Quit being a dick.

EDIT

Also, it’s really rich, you calling other people weird, given your behavior here and at the other place. But you know, you do you.

Being able to hear the guy talk really isn't a big ask given the device is an audio interface and has a microphone input. Doesn't need to be a slick YT influencer video but audible speech would have been nice.

Nobody demanded anything.

But to paraphrase one of my favorite movie quotes: “He was so preoccupied with whether or not he could, that he didn’t stop to think if he should!”

LMAO.
