Line 6 Helix Stadium Pre-Launch Discussion

That unboxing highlights how much smaller Stadium XL is than the current Hx Floor. I’ve always found the current hardware to be pretty much perfect size and switch spacing, especially live where my foot aim isn’t always graceful. More of an observation than a concern. The weight reduction is welcome.

The Stadium in a heartbeat. It depends what you’re doing / what your use model is of course.

For me, I’m playing at home these days but ‘never say never’ about gigging again. When I was gigging, max crowd I played to was 175 or so - never played a stadium and I never will. I did those size gigs with a 7 watt valve amp and a 1x12 - still had to use an attenuator then mic the cab to the PA because the stage volume was too much (it’s an angry little sod). That was with a brass section, bass, keys, drummer and vocals. It was so much easier when I bought the Kemper - any tone I wanted at a controllable stage volume.

Sure, I like the romance of an actual amp. The little tick, tick, tick of the valves as they cool down at the end. The smell. The flapping of your trousers when you crank it. The window resonating. But having something that sounds great through studio monitors or phones so I can have fun without freaking out the cat? Digital. For having all the stomp boxes without a sea of cables, power supplies, batteries, hum? Digital. For the variety and convenience? Digital. The fact that I’ve got a Loudster power amp and can still put it through my cabinet if I want to flap the trousers? Digital….. For ease of recording at any time of day or night? Digital.

I absolutely cannot wait for the Stadium - it’s close enough now that I’ve just ordered a laptop stand to put it on.

Yeah, seems like the cat's out of the bag and the world didn't come to a crashing halt. Doesn't seem like the folks who are getting them ahead of schedule are gathering with pitch forks and clubs on a lonely torch-lit hill, quick to judge, quick to anger, slow to understand, and all that. I'm a little bummed that mine didn't slip through tbh, mostly because GC already took my money (which of course is not Line 6's fault). I'm just hopeful the date doesn't slide any further right than what GC gave so I don't have to worry about being around to provide a signature over Thanksgiving weekend. First world problems for sure.

I don't begrudge them trying to get their ducks in a row.

There been enough confusion already, and I'm sure one or more retailers would feel some kind of way if Line 6 just said "Ah, screw it. Start shipping." after they JUST told them to hold tight and wait for a specific launch date.

People are just getting squirrely after a long wait, and anxious to get it before the holiday break (where we will all be too consumed with visiting/hosting family to enjoy it much anyway LOL).

Like all launch drama, this will fade into the ether once people get it in their hands.

In that case, I would say Stadium for your next purchase. It will do so much more for you as far as both amp tones and effects. You can use it on its own or in front of the Twin to add effects.

My next purchase suggestion would the. be something like a Ceriatone Plexi if you want medium to Van Halen level gain. I am partial to the all access, which gives you a variety of Marshall options, but most of their Marshall style amps come with or can be ordered with an effects loop. That would give more flexibility with the Stadium and also let you use it as just a clean(ish) power amp for the Stadium.

If you want more gain, the hotter 2 hole Marshall variants including the modded ones come into play, or a modern higher gain amp. Most will also have effects loops to pair well with the Stadium.

A Twin, a Stadium, and a Marshall style head plus a couple cabinets and maybe a Fender FR-10 would be an amp stable that can do everything you need and almost everything you could want.

I've been playing the excellent Peavey Invective model in Helix Native all day. It sounds fantastic and feels just as good. I'm really curious if we will get an Agoura version of the Invective.

Oh yes! I’m definitely looking at Marshall’s. There is a 50W Lead in my area in the low-$2k territory, a few JCM-800 (EL34), and I’ve even thought about a EVH 5150 III (50W) as they can be had pretty cheap.

It'll be fun to see what gets Agoura-fied and what doesn't. I would think either the OG 5150 or the Invective has to make the cut if not both.

DI said they completed the how to update to 1.1 video and its slated conservatively to release Tuesday ( although I think that’s a holiday ) so maybe Wednesday ?
If that is up on the site and ready to go I expect that the green light will be given pretty much around that time

The "update" video is just an update on what and when things are happening—mainly a repeat of the "Getting Ready For Helix Stadium" post I made on FB for those smart individuals who avoid the whole of FB like the wretched hive of scum and villainy it is. Paul Hindmarsh made an updating firmware video and that's dropping the morning of launch.
