Line 6 Helix Stadium Pre-Launch Discussion

Watching all the Summit coverage I am seeing lots of positive on Stadium also line6 has done a pretty good job about not letting out off the floor clips
If there is one area of concern that I do see come up , Paul from the Studio rats said it ,
The latency between switching presets was quite noticeable he did say it was beta firmware and still being optimized but it was someone that needed to be improved compared to competitors
I know Line6 is working on a solution to be able to get the Helix spillover up and running

I hope it will not be too long or there will be some communication as I would hate to see such a cool device getting slagged by the influencers day 1 for switching speed and have that be a bone of contention
Especially at the price point
You know they will
Preset switching time is always the last thing that's done. Not sure if it'll get noticeably better for 1.1 (yes, currently slower than Helix), but it's definitely on our docket to continuously improve after launch.

Is this latency?

No. Full throughput latency is the audio delay through the system, from A/D conversion to D/A conversion. USB latency is the audio delay through a computer. We're still optimizing both of those as well.
So you were talking about switching from one preset to another. There’s some lag there it’s not instantaneous and it’s worse leg than the original helix.?

I’ve not owned a Helix but….

When I made song presets for gig purposes, I’d make a ‘performance’ per song (on Kemper). The stomps on the floorboard would then take me through the relevant parts of the song and would either adjust gain levels / put on a stomp / add delay or similar. I stuck to one amp per song. To be honest, I only used 3-4 amps total for a 90+ min set and we played all sorts (cover band and we played a mix from 60’s to current at the time). I don’t think I ever found a need to go to a different core amp model during the same song but maybe I’m under-thinking it for a change? Heck, before the Kemper I gigged a single channel master volume only amp with a pedal board so I tap-danced badly. Nobody left.

Snapshots here will do that for me right? I haven’t played live for a while but I’m not ready to give that up forever.

If we're talking about live, time-sensitive use, you can have clean/dirt/lead/whatever live in a single preset with snapshots. Snapshots/scribble strips help make it easier to keep track of,

Well, I for one had a hard time to deciper my kitchen sink presets when I was not using them for a longer while.
I'm right now going for a mixed approach with my GT-1000 based setup, I'm using some individual presets for quick and dirty access and some "let's do everything within one preset" creatures as a kinda playground. But obviously that only works because the GT's switching is gapless (including FX trails) and has global blocks (and the external amp sound boxes are "global" as well). It's defenitely not possible to create this kinda setup with a Helix Floor (after all, there's reasons why I sold it, none of them related to sound quality).

and Showcase will make it even easier for live use.

Defenitely not for me as I can see no use case for it.

I'm not quite reconciling "Clearly-labeled snapshots of my own making with discreet displays are too confusing for me if I don't play them all the time" with "Tapping from preset to preset in a strictly one-way linear fashion with no labels on any effects and a small screen with undescriptive icons in a low-res layout view....now that's more like it!"
