Line 6 Helix Stadium Pre-Launch Discussion

All that aside, I get that Fractal wants the discussion on their own forum to be about their own products, but policing the Lounge too? That's maybe a bit too much. Makes even a Fractal fan like myself steer clear of that place.

I am also a Fractal fan. Absolutely love my FM9 and use it every single day. But the Fractal forum and most Fractal fanboys are just about the most fragile user base I have ever encountered.

I have a Stadium coming this winter. It will live happily alongside my FM9 and I will love both of them equally. I good product is a good product. I suppose it’s possible I will end up enjoying the Stadium more due to its UI, and I suppose it’s possible I may decide the Fractal amp models sound better. I think the former is more likely than the latter. Modern amp modeling all sound pretty good to me.

Jokes aside, one thing I’ve not seen or heard mentioned yet in the product features is the ability to bypass those input bright caps on the Marshalls.

I realize that might sound absurd given the years long dust up trying to get the bright caps, but there are use cases. If I had the ability in a snapshot to have a cleanish Superlead with the bright cap on and then switch snapshots into the bright cap being bypassed and hitting the amp with a fuzz or drive that would honestly be a pretty big win and something I wish I could do on my actual Superlead.

One of my favorite amp features in fractal is being able to adjust the bright cap value. While the huge stock cap has a certain trick to it, for general playing I like a much smaller cap value. The values I prefer are pretty close to what was in the helix plexi model IIRC. The big cap has this extra trash/static type of stuff around the note when you back off the guitar volume or hit it with certain drives and boosts that I just can’t go for. No cap loses the vibe for me too.

If you can’t adjust the cap value, you’re
damned any way you go. Big cap, people will say they hear squirrels still. Small cap, people like James will roast them for missing the full Marshall experience. No cap, a lot of us will complain about it being too dark and missing the sparkle and kerrang of a plexi.

You were definitely a treat in the TGP QC shitshow.

Signed, Fractal Fanboy.

How about the Showcase feature? That sounds cool. Not only for the stage, but as a home player these days - the idea of loading in my favorite songs or track to play along to sounds pretty convenient.

Are there any videos that get into Showcase in more detail? Like how are the songs stored and organized? How / where in the menu do you call them up and what’s the process to get playing along to them ?

I'm not sure that I'll use the automation features. But a common scenario is that one of my band members doesn't remember how to play part of a new song and needs to play along to the track a few times to get it. It will be convenient to play it through the Stadium without relying on other devices, especially in bad reception areas.

Showcase I hope doesn’t take up much r&d cause it’s something I would never use myself

OK thank you, ChatGPT :grin :

The Gear It Is A-Changin’ (Timbuk3 Buys the Stadium)

To the tune of “The Times They Are A-Changin’”

Come forumites gather, from near and from far,
We’ve witnessed the legend, the wandering star.
He questioned the tone gods, he tested the air,
He demoed and doubted, he laid his soul bare.
For Helix and Fractal he longed with great pain—
But he never would buy, just complain.
Oh, the gear it is a-changin’.

He argued on tone with a preacher’s despair,
“Too fizzy! Too flat! There’s ghost notes in there!”
“I need stereo inputs! ! I need tube-like feel!”
But no amp nor plugin could seal the whole deal.
Twelve thousand posts, but never a chain—
Till he clicked ‘Add to Cart’… Praise the name!
Yeah, the gear it is a-changin’.

The mods took a knee and the lurkers looked on,
The clouds parted wide and the thread rolled on strong.
“It’s done,” said ol’ timbuk, “my search is now through,”
“The Stadium is mine, and it’s firmware 2.2!”
The forum went silent… then burst into flames—
A 40-page thread, and a meme war remains.
Oh, the gear it is a-changin’.

Now campers and tweakers and cork-sniffin’ bros,
Beware the long posters who just never close.
Your signal chain dreams may be noble and wide,
But even timbuk3 must one day decide.
So stop all your dithering, stop being so strange—
’Cause the gear, it is a-changin’.

I wanna hear some fat ass Bring Me The Horizon riffs pleez.
