Line 6 Helix Stadium Pre-Launch Discussion

IOW, Proxy isn’t coming to Native because it will be called something else.

Huh? So you think they'll break HW compatibility for HXN? I don't think so.
And really, it'd be just the same as with IRs. For compatibility, IRs need to be loaded both in HX HW and HXN. Same with "Proxy" files.

That's not what I said though. I guess I don't know what you're asking me.

Well, you were saying that Proxy wouldn't make it to Native as it wouldn't be required. And in reply to my notion that it'd be needed for HW compatibility, you said it would come but be called something else or so. I'm confused.

From discord....

RE: Rack unit. thebishopgame says: "I'd very much like for there to be"
Someone asks whether Stadium enables hands-free pre-arranged looping. He responds "correct".
"Better than an SPD, easier to start at the certain spot, etc"
One person says they currently use an iPad and are getting into using a laptop and Logic and he responds with "You're exactly the kind of person we had in mind for this"
There is internal storage, "but big stuff goes on the card" which you can replace with any size.
USB-C is connect to a host.
USB-A is to act as a host.

"Agoura and Proxy will not be available in Native" - assuming he means current Native.
Chasis has vents.

"There are a number of complications with doing NAM in embedded hardware, since it was made to run on general PC/Mac and effectively have unlimited resources. You have to limit the model size at some point, and then the performance might not be what people think of as NAM. There’s a lot we can do with Proxy to make stuff better that we can’t with NAM."

"A bunch of the Agoura amps have multiple channels, but it just depends on the amp circuit design. The less the channels have in common electronics wise, the more stuff has to go into the model and the higher the DSP usage. So at some point we have to separate them for usability's sake."

"Yeah, I mean, I think most of us are of the opinion that if it can be done and doesn't take a monstrous effort to do so (we have to port the NAM player code to SHARC and make sure it plays nice with the rest of the system), we'd like to do it. We just don't wanna do it and then have it be meh, especially if it does take a significant investment.
Actually, maybe not SHARC. I'm not sure if we'd need to have the MCU cores run that or what."

RE: Proxy -
"It's not gonna be parametric at launch for sure, I'm not certain whether we'll ever go that direction. On top of the more complicated sampling process, you have to get into variable UI based on user defined params and HOO BOY"

RE: No EU pre-orders.
"Yeah, unfortunately this is a Yamaha thing. We had to close our EU offices when we were acquired so they handle all stuff over there."

"The stem splitting will happen in Edit, Stadium will just get the audio files and play those back. So it'll be powered by your computer, same as Logic."

"You can control Showcase transport via MIDI"

"You can send it MIDI messages to play, stop, cue a song, etc

So if you put those in your session on the laptop, yeah, when the drummer sits down and starts the song, it can start Showcase playback on Stadium at the same time. That's what you were asking for, right?"

"In case y'all didn't catch it, that video contains all the Agoura guitar amp models that'll be available at launch.
Fender 5W Champ
Fender Deluxe Tweed
Hiwatt DR103 Custom 100
Fender Princeton Reverb
Fender Deluxe Reverb
Fender Twin Reverb
Vox AC30 Top Boost
Marshall Super Lead
Marshall JCM800 2203
Bogner Ecstasy 101B blue/red channel
Soldano SLO-100
EVH 5150III 100 blue/red channel
Revv Generator 120 purple/red channel"

"I think we'll probably get around to all of them eventually
Agoura modeling goes faster than HX
We'll be tossing in new ones as we go as well"

RE: Using the sends as separate line outs:
"Not at launch but we're going to get that into an update"
"You can also get extra outs via Expand boxes"
There's a Helix Discord now?

It will be Stadium Native instead of Helix Native. I don’t think they’re going to try to make all of them HW compatible in one piece of software. Just like there will be a new version of Edit just for Stadium.

Oh sure, quite defenitely. At least I'd bet on it, there's just too many differences between the OG units and the new ones to have it all covered in one main software framework.

@Digital Igloo Can you say anything about the control switch outputs and which amps they've been tested with? The Helix Floor did have a issues with some amps and creating ground hum and stuff. I think the Mark V and Orange Rockerverb were amps that didn't really play nicely. Hope this is improved with the Stadium!

What is proxy?

True, but this isn't because the looper is all that more sophisticated (at least right now); this would be via Showcase looper flags.
USB-C is connect to a host. USB-A is to act as a host.
The only thing USB-A does right now is allow you to connect an ethernet adapter for a LAN. We hope to add more functionality later.

Correct. If there's ever a Stadium Native, Proxy would obviously be included. Showcase won't, however, because there's no point in having a nested playback system within your DAW.
"The stem splitting will happen in Edit, Stadium will just get the audio files and play those back. So it'll be powered by your computer, same as Logic."
Not quite. Stem splitting happens in the cloud, not Edit itself. Then those stems are downloaded directly to the microSD card. We're using Yamaha's Music Connect service (currently only available in Japan). If you have a Moises subscription—or utilize Logic or any other stem-splitting service—you can of course load individual stems in as well.

It's still picky but it's significantly less picky. IIRC, it works with more amps than Helix/Rack/LT/HX Effects does, but there's one amp (I forget) where the old stuff actually works better.

We had proper relays in there for a long while but had to perform a cost-down exercise when the [jaw-droppingly insipid bull:poop: the mods don't want us talking about] dropped. And due to the new [jaw-droppingly insipid bull:poop: the mods don't want us talking about] that'll raise both COGs and the everyday cost of doing business, we still couldn't get XL below $2k and meet our margin demands.

I know there will be some arched eyebrows that the first Stadium Agoura isolated sample of a Brit Plexi isn't some humbuckers kerranging away with everything on 10, but this clip makes absolute sense to me. Shows the dynamic range and response wonderfully and sounds great too, even though I rarely play this type of stuff.

Thanks for the weekend drop!

Oh! That's a whole lot up my alley! Sounds great!

Ami right in thinking the latest video shows presets for each (excuse the fractal terminology) block?
Are you referring to the Focus zones ? Yes I believe all 5 of the zones have settings and eventually this will be user definable

Like on SLO for instance you could have
80s Rodent
Slowhand
Warren NOT Demartini
Sultans swing
Studio Lead

Not super my thing, but sounds great.

While we wait for them to make that user-definable, there looks to be an always-exposed right nav that'll offer up whatever Favorites you save. Looks like you can do nested folders, so you can store your favorite clean/crunch/lead settings and have them a tap away at all times.
