Line 6 Helix Stadium Pre-Launch Discussion

I was originally going to get an Axe III when I was entertaining the stadium. I really want a unit that I can use in front of an amp (Fender Twin), but can also be used standalone for home use. Axe III seemed perfect but I got enticed by the Stadium for “ease of use”. 🤷

I picked up the Fender TMP to do this, just rearranged my room yesterday so I can run out of the modeler and into the front of an amp/cab, or 4CM, or studio monitors, or headphones, or FRFR, etc. it’s killer like a virtual digital pedalboard.

Stadium should do the same thing but wasn’t available yet and was more expensive so I tried fender first.

One thing not available on fractal is amp control which helix and fender do. That’s awesome for a change switcher. I hope next get fractal has that along with a better interface.

Snapshot params do achieve half of what channels do, just not in as convenient way and without the ability to have a whole different model. I actually liked the way Hotone handled this where it made a clear distinction between "main scene" and other scenes, where it would not let you e.g change models or move blocks in other scenes but allowed you to alter parameters, including showing if they are altered. Made it pretty easy to understand what scenes were doing.

But ultimately I found I used the Fractal channels feature mostly for comparing different things and switching amp/cab models. It was pretty rare that I used channels in most effect blocks after initial testing.

My guess is that the HX platform in its current form is not suited for this, considering some of the more complex models like the Revv are still split into 2 channel models.
Guessing there are multiple cool ways to address this functionality. I personally use it all the time on my FM3, mostly on amp, cap, and drive, but occasionally on other block types.

I think Channels are amazing on the Fractals. Lets limited DSP resources go a very long way. Hope Line 6 implements something similar soon. Really an amazingly useful feature.
When I asked about virtual A/B even if just for the Amps
DI did say that they have discussed it many times and it’s on the list just not top priority at this time , so I thought that was really promising

I think for me, the split row thing of presets on top and then either scenes or effects will accomplish what I personally need. I'll have patches set for clean, crunch, lead, etc. and work with it that way. The fact that Favorites are on-device makes this WAY easier as well.

I'm curious; has there been anything said about preset leveling for the Stadium? Are there any tools on-device to make that easier?

The most irritating ones are from new visitors clutching their pearls when a manufacturer acts like <aghast!> a real person instead of a soulless corporate stooge. Thankfully other people typically respond with "You must be new here."

That was me this time! (Responding with, "You must be new here," not the pearl-clutching.)

The Check Levin’s video has me wondering whether my issues with the Helix drives has more to do with the amp modeling than the pedals. The Klon and Timmy sound good in that video.

Was there ever confirmation that another round of oversampling made it into Stadium? Igor had suggested it at one point but also said he couldn’t remember with certainty.

Man! Just got a chance to look at this on the big screen. I haven't referenced my OG cheat sheet in forever, but I may have to find a way to frame this in a reversible frame!
I think when they post the manual, they will also add digital downloads of the cheat sheet in hi-res.

The fact that stupid post made it into “Trending Topics” is total BS.

DI said at TOP that there's more oversampling than even the current version of Helix

@Digital Igloo

Is this correct? I mean, I think we all expect that (i.e., increased oversampling) on the new Agoura amp models…but, I guess, with the new Stadium DSP, it would make sense to extend the increased processing power to all the legacy Helix models? Would that be the case?

For a forum that really despises TOP (understandable on one level)… it seems to know a lot about what is posted there. Weird to stay up with a place that’s hated so much.

I don’t care for the place either so that’s why I don’t now wtf you all are talking about.

Yes, Agoura has higher oversampling. The main takeaway, however, is that "Oh, I can hear aliasing from this YouTube video" should never be taken seriously.

I don’t despise it (too much) but I like to check the Amp and Digital Emporiums over there. It’s just odd to see what makes it into the trending topics list now and then.
