My dad was an electronics tech many years ago, and in our attic he had several very large boxes of NOS tubes of many types, and tube test equipment. I asked him what he did with all of that stuff about ten years ago: “oh, finally got rid of it and took it to the dump.”

Last year when I was visiting for Christmas, I mentioned how some vintage pedals are valuable because of the components that have been out of production for years. I asked him if he had any vintage germanium transistors by chance: “shoot, I just threw away a whole bunch of them last week when I was cleaning!”

It would be pretty interesting, even if just from a modeling evolution POV. Always fun to see how far things have come (or to be surprised at how formidable some of the older stuff was, like a POD bean running through modern IRs).
