IK Multimedia TONEX

I tried it. The tones are great, but I still can't play like Eddie!
*Insane talent not included. Upcoming Dweezil Zappa collection will have a similar disclaimer.
I'm in QC Canada so it's a little far 😉
Dang, Jim is a font of knowledge to say the least. If you do get a chance to chat with him at any time it is worth every second he's willing to talk.

Hey Guys so is this how i would Integrate the ToneX One into my FM9 ? the ToneX will be amp and cab Only rest will be FM9 when required my FM9 would be a stop Box
With the In / out as return send with no Shunt since the Actual cables are the shunts

Thanks all

All 3 of the Brown Sound packs are good if you are into those kinds of sounds.
I gotta give credit where credit is due. Lots of amazing work and research went into preparing and capturing and offering those brown sound packs. I only with my own fav guitarists could get that sort of treatment.

Another option is to use your Tonex in conjunction with your Amp Block(s). With my FM3 I cross-fade between the Pedal(s)/Tonex One path and the Amp Block path (two Tonex JVM 410H DI captures and the Fractal JCM 800 set clean in this case).

Note that if you want to play both the Amp Block(s) and the FX Loop together, you'll need to delay the Amp Block path's a little using the Flanger Block or similar for a micro-delay. I just cross-fade so not an issue for me. In my case they all share the Cab Block.

Hi, for those of you who use a ToneX One pedal. I have a 160 watt solid state Pro 185 with effects loop in. Can you plug it into effects loop in of an amp and get the sounds? Will it sound sort of like a marshall or is output of the ToneX One not gonna work well in that setup?

That should work fine and get the sound of the tonex and the cab of the pro185. Best to get di captures in this instance, or global bypass the cab in tonex

So basically the pedals are going to waste more screen space. They could've shown like all of the effects in one view if they wanted a good pedalboard view.

They also managed to make the "shrink" button so that it only shrinks the currently selected block. If you switch to another one and back, it's the skeumorphic thing again. With the Cab block it doesn't even show a shrunk down version but goes to the Amp block. Did anyone actually test this?

For effects with effect types, you have to painstakingly pull the knob around instead of being able to just click a type.

IK remains one of the worst UI designers in the modeler business.

I don't care about the graphics part too much, but all the pedals at once would make the controls and labels too small.

There's plenty of room if they made the bigger effects type a smaller 4 knob design and crammed the type selection elsewhere.

They'd need to look like the Noise Gate and have 4 knobs. The type knob taking this much room is pure bad design.

Here, a quick mockup:

I only added a 4th knob to the Reverb. Type would still have to be done somewhere else but I think these could be made a bit wider easily.

I'll have to see if they updated it but their editor software didn't even let you adjust the window divider between presets and ToneNet navigation and also didn't have slider bars, so you had to have a massive monitor to see model details.

Yeah, I would much rather they think about allowing it to scale to a small notebook or tablet screen than framing more graphics in.

Honestly I’ve not touched my Tonex hardware in probably 6 months or more with Stadium XL and the AM4 having arrived, but I’m pumped to see IK still iterating on Tonex.

I still use my hardware a lot, but I hardly ever touch the software. I only need a few good presets and then I can just play. That said, I welcome the software improvements and the growth of the ecosystem. I think Tonex is a great product for the many who do not need a Stadium/QC/Fractal level device, and especially for the younger guys who don't have the budget for the flagships. A Tonex One and an FR-10 is way better than the rigs I had as a teen and early 20 something, and cheaper in inflation adjusted dollars.

The Tonex really lends itself to this approach and I’ve had a similar experience. Where I’m constantly tweaking my modelers, I don’t think I’ve adjusted anything on my Tonex hardware in over a year. I have a couple caps that represent a couple amps I own or like, and I just plug in and go. It’s kind of a unicorn in that regard.

I agree. Not only is it a great alternative - IMO the V2 crunch and high gain tones beat those flagships currently. It’s a tremendous value. I hope they keep at it.

Same, though I recently swapped in some fuzz captures as it is a gap in my pedal collection currently. Only challenge I have is remembering what captures I have in which slot!
