IK Multimedia TONEX

As to the stadium, there's obviously a bazillion features in these units. Maybe my needs would change in the future, but for the time being, there's no reason for me to buy a stadium,

Tonex one at this point sounds and feels stupid good. V2 somehow got me into a rabbit hole of capturing stuff. I'm getting some of the best tones I've ever had.

At this point, tonex one has replaced my fm3 as the unit/plugin that gets the most use. This wouldn't have been possible without capturing amps myself, but here we are.
A good V2 Tonex cap is tough to beat.

I am the same way. I am preferring ToneX to my FM3 these days, and capturing my own tube amps has really been the difference maker.

It also has me really thinking about what effects I use vs play with. I miss the Fractal effects, but then again, I am just as happy with a Delay and Reverb pedal.

I don't use effects as much or to the extent a lot of others do, and I prefer analog pedals for what I do use, so the Tonex One's limitations are really not an issue in my use case. The amp tones and feel I am getting out of it are IMHO as good or better than any digital solution out there. I am interested in Stadium, most likely not until Proxy is released and tested in the wild, but I definitely don't feel like I am missing out on anything at the moment.

Still interested in the Stadium (both XL and non-XL, and a Stomp heir will probably be killer) and the next-gen Fractal devices (preferably not a rack unit), but combining my analog pedals with one of my Tonex Ones or my OG Tonex pedal is great! Sounds and feels great, and also fun to use (Edit: the fun part wrt UI/UX is obviously due to the analog pedals).

Did you all need to do anything special to get the Mac librarian to see your Tonex One? I’m just now connecting mine to the computer (usb) and get power but the software isn’t recognizing it. Everything is updated and running the latest version software-wise.

Are they on Tone.net? If so, I'd love to check them out.

So back to Tonex tones a bit… I have a small ”wish list” at the moment on captures I’d like to get a hold of. Does anyone have any favorites (or self-made) for these? Preferably V2 captures.

- Well rounded Marshall. 2203 that can go from almost clean to being boosted into metal territory.

- Collection of JP2C, Mark V or VII captures. I’ve never really bonded and experienced the Marks so is there a nice collection of captures?

- Preamp-only Synergy caps! I’d like to try out some of the Synergy preamps into my FB25. I tried out the SLO module caps posted here earlier and they were really fun! Would be nice with some more of them.

I found some really nice Marshall captures from 9nino9. I'm using one of his 2203's with SD boost and it sounds great with my setup. His plexi stuff is sweet as well. If his other stuff is as well done as his Marshall's, I would not be surprised.

I can't remember to be honest, but perhaps you have to register the Tonex One in the IK Product Manager first?

No, on my Mac it was pretty seamless. Are you using the Editor software? The regular Tonex does not see the hardware anymore except as an interface, so you have to use the editor to access the Library and move files on and off the One.

Yup I did verify the manager shows the unit registered.

Yeah it’s seamless with my Tonex pedal. I’ll give it a shot on my other Mac with a different cable and see if I can get it to connect there.

Parts showed up and filament is dried, so I am printing a test case for the Waveshare 4.3. I took the design I found on printables and filled in the holes for the power switch and jack and cut new holes for the 9v jacks I have, a USB-A port, and a Neutrik TRS. Depending on how things go in testing, I will probably only use either the USB or the TRS for external footswitches, so odds are I will be doing a second print eventually.

My Waveshare Zero's also showed up, but I want to test external pedals using the I2C across a USB cable before I decide how to build those. I am thinking up to a meter USB cable between the footswitch (with the Sparkfun board) to the Waveshare should be OK, but if it isn't stable, I will put the Sparkfun in the main case with the Zero's and then have jacks to connect all the switches.

My printer is ancient and slow, so another 6+ hours to find out if the case even fits...

Rehearsal and two gigs with the Tonex/GT-1000 board shown before done. Everything worked as smooth as it gets. This is pretty much my goldilocks setup for smaller gigs and I'll likely build a little side-car with 2-3 dirt boxes so I can as well use it for some slightly more challenging (or fun) stuff.
Setup time for IEM gigs is like less than 1 minute, sound is, well, just as good as Tonex captures are, and as cumbersome as editing the GT is, it now does a most excellent job at holding everything together and supplying FX. The Ampero Control works flawlessly, too.
Couldn't be all that much happier.

IME the editor only sees the Tonex One if it's plugged straight into the computer, no hub.

Well, the print came out pretty good. I didn't check the diameter of the footswitch holes and they were too small for the switches I have, so I drilled those out. I don't like how the base/cover fits and attaches so I am going to redesign that and reprint with a little more play and more robust screw recepticles. BUT, the worst part is I can now confirm that if you drop a Waveshare 4.3b onto a tile floor, the glass will break. Ugh! Now that I have to buy another one, it is no longer a budget project!

Oh shit!
Once my box is done, I will likely come up with a small kinda protection thing mounted on a hinge, so I can just completely cover the screen once things are up and running.

Here’s my Zero in the 3D printed case that is linked to in the Builtly documentation for Tonex:

HX Stomp for scale I guess.

Snug fit, easy to reach all pins from underneath since there are cutouts. I got the short case as well from my colleague so might buy one more Zero and try to make an even smaller build. I’m thinking this can go on the underside of a pedalboard with some Velcro without problems. Only caveat is that it needs 5V power without additional components.

I then spent my Sunday browsing for JCM800 caps. Found some OK ones on Tone.net but I only do V2/DI captures so my results were a bit limited. Also ended up with a new 5153 50W Red channel as my high gain rhythm tone for now. But it’s so easy to switch around using the app on the phone so flavor can change daily!

I have a few extra of the additional voltage reduction boards because I use them to replace old loud amp fans with super quiet but lower voltage PC fans. That said, I am using Cioks DC-7's on both my boards now, and they have a USB port that supplies 5v, so I am going to build mine with about a foot/25cm USB-A dongle. I actually found a couple of old Fitbit chargers that will be the donors.

On further thought, I am leaning heavily towards a clean sheet case design for the 4.3 as the one I found online has a lot of small issues. It works, but I can make one that should print better and look a little better, with a bottom/lid/cover that attaches better, without screws from the sides.
