IK Multimedia TONEX

It will only control the guitar modeling volume, even the global output volume won't do anything for the audio from the computer.

Well that sucks! In the rare cases I have the one hooked to my Macbook, I have always used in app volume controls which do work, and for the iPhone/iPad, the stupid hearing protection reverse volume thing works OK.

When using headphones, I have mostly been using it into a Mooer looper/drum machine and using the headphone out on the looper so I haven't had to mess with it that much.

Anyone on Windows tried if the TONEX ASIO driver functions normally in this regard?

My windows laptop died before I got the One, but it was a worse experience with the OG pedal. Basically, the OG pedal had to be in interface mode to get any audio at all from Windows, in which case it did not play the captures or presets on the pedal. You could use it as the input and output for the PC and then run the Tonex software to make guitar noises, but at that point you are better off using an actual interface.

Hmmm I use mine with windows and can play captures while getting windows audio no problem.

I'll try the slider thing shortly

With the One or the OG? If it works with the OG pedal IK must have fixed it. The One seems to have had better (not good) USB audio from the start.

I have been lurking this forum for awhile, but had to join because of all the ToneX talk!

I am the same way. Last year I tried the free ToneX just for the heck of it because I was bored. Within a few months I owned Total Studio Max, a ToneX One, and the Axe I/O. I have gotten better digital tones than I ever have, and that is after being a Fractal user for years. There is just something about high gain chug that modelers struggle with that the capture units seem to get right.

I have played with NAM, but it just hasn't clicked with me in the same way, but I do like your 6505+ captures.

I couldn't even model with ToneX before because it would just crash on 50xx GPUs. V2 not only allowed me to capture, but they sound better, and it only takes me 8 minutes to make an extended capture.
Oof nice, I’m going to redo a bunch of those for v2 like the 6505+ and 5150iii 50w Ivory / 100w Stealth

Fwiw, as a kind of tip, the experienced users will know it already, but still, as I still constantly stumble into this myself:
When you check out new captures (say, from ToneNET), all the block settings you've used last will stay the same. I was just running into this yet again and thought "ouch, what a huge amount of gain", only to find out that for the last patch I was fooling around with I had the amp block's gain way turned up and even had the compressor doing some pre-boost.
Ideally, to see what captures are really supposed to sound like (minus the discussed input level issues that we can't do much about right now as it seems), just click the upper right "advanced" icon and then "reset".

Kinda related: When checking DI captures through a fullrange system, select an IR or VIR cab and lock the cab block. And make sure to unlock it when checking full captures. Another thing I keep forgetting.

I've uploaded my Extended training captures to ToneNet as well. Easiest is to search for "FB25" in the Tonex app.

It totals 13 captures of the ENGL Fireball 25, where all except Power Amp only has with and without Mid Boost (I lowered the mids a bit though on those captures):

Power Amp only
Clean
Clean Bright
Clean Strat (is a bit gritty)
Driven Strat
Medium Gain
High Gain

But like I said, just search for "FB25" and all except the oldest of the captures that pops up is from me.

Please give me some feedback if you try them out! I know already that volume on the clean caps are a bit low. Was surprised that the "Clean Strat" captures are my favorites. Works well with humbuckers and turning down the gain!

I checked these and liked some of them quite a bit (even if, almost business as usual..., they're kinda out of my wheelhouse).

However, I stumbled over this before and it's defenitely something @IK Multimedia should adress. Out of the downloaded captures, some showed up with your name as the author, but most of them show my name. That's just wrong and makes it impossible to search local captures by author.

Happened to me and I couldn't figure out what's wrong (the block settings remaining the same).

It's actually a pretty nice feature IMO (the IR lock is even better IMO), especially when running into a bunch of captures that were meant to be played with less or more input gain, but it can cause irritating moments, so to say...

Thanks Sascha.

That’s a really weird bug… I think I’ve seen it as well now when I think about it.

@IK Multimedia, here's another one for your programming team: When you delete a custom IR from the cab block and load a Tonex preset using it, it says "Tone Model cannot be found or loaded" - which isn't exactly true as the Tone Model is still there, just the IR is missing.
When you however reload a song using a Tonex patch with an IR that you deleted, it still has that information "somehow" - which of course is good as total recall of projects remains intact, but it's confusing.

So here's some suggestions:
- When an IR is missing from a preset, there should be a search option. Just as what exists for pretty much all software samplers ("search filesystem", "search folder", "point to file" being the most common options).
- When an IR is missing from the IR list but the project still recalled the correct settings (which, as said, is great), there should still be an option to relocate and reload the IR.
- Ideally, there would be an option such as "bake IR into preset" (with an option to still remove it if you wanted) or even into the Tone Model already (so it'd act like the cabs captured in full rigs).

And while we're at it, here's some more wishes regarding IRs:
- It'd be great if I could custom sort them. Let me just drag them up and down in the list and add that status as "custom" to the display option dropdown menu in the upper left.
- It'd be even better if one could use folders.

Fwiw, just so you know I'm not always complaining (well, I am, but hey...): IR browsing in general is quite great as it's amazingly fast. I'm not aware of any IR loader allowing me to scroll through bigger lists of IRs with just the arrow keys as easily and quickly (well, Logic's Space Designer does that, but you need to have your IRs saved as SD presets). And because of that it'd be even greater if those two wishes could be implemented. Would make it the (single) IR loader to rule them all.

I keep capturing my 5153 50w and Triple Recto every few days as I learn more tricks to make them better.

For example, I got a separate reamp box as the one in the Axe IO is weak, so I use that to match the level of my guitar. I also find I need different captures based on if I plan to run it through a poweramp and cab, or direct with IRs. The EQ is way different for the sound I like. Some other examples are real cab vs reactive load connected, and buffer in front of the amp or not.

Oh I missed this! Your last Fireball power amp one has become my main power amp capture, so I’m really curious to compare tonight or tomorrow!

I hadn’t really looked at the group buy thing, but just realized that if I buy a new Tonex One now and register it before the date, I’ll be able to get all the software things (or more or less) back that I’d lose with deregistering and selling my big Tonex… I should probably get on that lol

It’s a pretty good deal! I have like 12 slots left that I have no idea what to use for.

Yeah, looking at the list, I don't really want / need most of this stuff lol, I keep my plugins and sample libraries pretty slim on purpose, but I guess it can't hurt to have it!

Would be interesting to hear if you can make out a difference! They have the same settings on the amp, and I didn’t really change anything else. I should also A/B them a bit more properly when I can!

The Tonex One is coming today, and an A/B between the two is the first thing I'll setup!

tbh with how close the other one was sounding to the NAM capture to me, I'm not sure if I'll notice a big difference in this case, but I'm really curious to see.

Are you uploading them to Tonenet? If so, I would like to check them out. I'm always messing around with different DR captures for songs our band is doing.

So tbh I can’t say I notice a huge difference… but what I’m doing is also a very specific thing with just the power amp captures! I MAYBE heard a difference in the high end, but I might have just been fooling myself too lol. Either way, I switched to the new version!
