IK Multimedia TONEX

I've come to the conclusion that the breakdown for me has to be my reamp box (Radial "blue" one), and that it's not getting hot enough of a signal out to the amp. Everything still sounds undergained. Contrast that to ones I do with my FM9 (entirely in the box) and it works splendidly.

I'd try to feed the amp straight from the interface's out for a test. Got pretty decent results that way back in the days (just for re-amping, not for capturing). With quite some amps, to me it seems as if you just need to get the level right, impedance has never been too much of an issue for me.

I’m totally battling the same issue.

I’ve had some luck using Helix Floor as an interface and sending from an fx send set to instrument level, but gnarly ground loop.

On the blue Radial there is a two resistor pad at the volume pot. Take 'em out and jump them. It works pretty nice after that.
 
Yeah, it's better to hit it too hot than too cold but IMO hitting it just right is better. It is interface dependant.
 
Its is too hard to mimic the way a guitar interacts at the input jack of an amp?

How ever solves this in a way that is as simple as just plugging the gutar wins the internet!
 
I don't get what's so hard with all that.

1) You need to bring the output of your interface down to guitar level. That's as easy as it gets. You can measure things. Have a looper playing in front of everything and measure the output level with the interface "inserted" and without it. Adjust, done.

2) You possibly want something to bring the high impedance of a passive guitar pickup back into the game. Such as an "unbuffer" pedal. Possibly like this:

Only (1) is mandatory, (2) would possibly yield better results, though.

Ok, maybe there's noise issues as well. To adress those, a DI box or any other galvanic isolation box (which can be had for cheap as well) might do the trick. You obviously can't get rid of the potential noise of your interface and a full ADDA conversion, but in case the interface is decent, it shouldn't be much of an issue.

Some prefer passive technique via isolation transformers while some like to use active isolation (buffer).
I prefer passive Isolation because a) no PSU needed b) physical isolation of signal in/out c) snakeoil of transformers (beeing an inductors they work „similar“ to passive Pickups).

Cheap and easy way would be this „line iso box“: Behringturd HD400

Much more sturdy alternative with much better transformer (more frequency neutral and stable with much higher signal voltage): Lehle p-Split

I would not use passive di-box in reverse, it would boost your lineout signal for no reason and would require an inline-pad to bring Level/voltage down.

Imo all the impedance-talk is not that important in reamp-scenario, cause lineout of interface already will be low impedance. For extra mojo the AMZ-Pickupsim is on my diy-bucketlist though…

I’m about to dive into some ToneX v2 captures and am genuinely excited to try it out. But I can’t help but lol at the labelling of v2 vs 1.10.3, classic IK

What’s new in version 1.10.3:
• Added a label for v2 Tone Models on each line and card.
 
… remembering the old days when IK stated something like „nah, v2 is not official wording. Just something a few YTs came along with…“

This!!!! The high impedance output is only needed if you are going into something sensitive to that like a fuzz pedal or an unusual old amp design. With a typical high input impedance amp it won’t make a difference.

The other reasons you might need a reamp box are isolation and to lower the levels, but most interfaces can send at low enough levels, and isolation is only needed if you are having ground noise issues.
 
For making captures, any extra noise can have quite a negative effect on the accuracy/ESR. Even using my amp switcher which barely adds any perceivable noise makes slightly less accurate models, so I go direct from reamp box to amp when making captures.
 
Hey guys, just a simple and probably stupid question about capturing.

If you have the Tonex Capture Re-Amp box, do you still have these issues you are talking about? Or are you guys using what you have to make it work, like a work-around vs having the box?

I'm seeing a few Tonex Capture Boxes show up from time to time on FBMP and since I dont have an interface, mic setups, etc. I'm only interested in making DI captures.

I’d stay away from the IK reampers, really underpowered outputs for accurate cap work.

Do you, by any chance, have any Helix units? Or another modeler serving as an interface featuring a proper FX loop?
