IK Multimedia TONEX

To be fair the update that came out a week ago has made it a lot more promising than the last few years. Most of the bug bears people had with batch capturing and quality of results has only just been improved.

Keen to check it all out again
I do like that they have a presence here too. Are there any other vendors from digital modeling/capture companies here aside from Fractal and L6?

As much as I hate buying captures, I snagged 3 of the Amalgam V2 packs - Fender II, Marshall, and the High Gain pack. It felt like a fair contribution after their commitment to provide free V2 update paths for existing customers.

There’s some juicy stuff in there. I just had a few mins with an SG and can’t wait to get back to it with a Tele because a handful of the Fender blackface caps are gorgeous. Curious to see how those will handle a real tubescreamer and other pedals.

The high gain stuff rips but is generally over gained and noisy on my board. My input trim is zeroed out and I might need to adjust some.

Yeah it is nice when vendors participate in discussions. Yes, Lin 6 has @Digital Igloo that comes by and hangs out all the time. Not sure about Fractal since I dont have one so I dont ever go in that one.

Just made three captures that are training, and did the exact same three on Tone3000. Had to use the internal load on the amp this time but the process in Tonex is much, much improved at least.

Gonna be interesting what falls out of it and doing a comparison. I goosed the output as per NAM instructions and also found that almost all of my extra noise when capturing the Lead channel stems from my computer monitor, so unplugged it and VNC’ed into the computer to finish up the capturing processes. Now I feel like a tech ninja.

Edit- looks like TONEX training times are going to be about an hour each on my M2 Mac Mini…

My advice would be to do one capture at a time until you get the process down. THEN try to do a handful to take advantage of batch processing.
I did three; just the three modes of the Fillmore. We'll see how it goes later, because this laptop told me it would be a few days for a standard capture. :D

I'm going to move the archived caps to my Mac.

If it works, we've got a Mark VII, Mark IIC+ RI, Badlander 100, and Rectifier 90's coming in, which would be cool AF.

Being able to queue models up and train later means the slow speeds are less of an issue IMO. I just leave it running overnight and by morning I have 10-15 ready to go.
That and the ”use same setting” option really speeds it up for the critical capturing section of the procedure. I’m very happy with it.

Next up on the wish list is input calibration and then for fucks sake, an update to the iPhone/iPad app!
