IK Multimedia TONEX

We may have a remedy for that coming very, very soon. I know you're not a metal guy, but am I correct that you dig the SLO?

I'll certainly be using it more. I'm playing around with it right now to understand the UI a little better and see all that's going on in here, when I'm not getting lost noodling, but as of now this seems to me that it's everything it claims to be. While I don't care how accurate the knob turning is, I was still impressed with how turning the knobs responded how I assumed they would on an amp, not like turning the high end up with a basic EQ.

I would have to imagine that anyone who actually tries it out and maybe had access to some known great sounding profiles there wouldn't be a whole lot of criticism. I know I definitely went from skeptical to looking for more profiles in less than 24 hours.

I still think it's lost that you can snag the Tone X One for $150 and for us here on the digital forum, throw it in the loop of a digital unit we already have. I think it would be a cool companion for the FM9 or FM3

When I remembered my uncle is coming to visit this weekend I put a post-it note on my computer to remember to show him the ToneX One. He's been churning and burning all the cheaper modeling units for the last few years, Mooers and Nux and Boss. He caught wind of the amp-in-a-box pedals like the UA and Friedman stuff, I think he's going to shit a little brick over the ToneX One. He had a heart attack a couple years back that really took a lot out of him, he's been on the small rig hunt ever since.

But yeah, definitely a pretty killer option to throw in the loop of a modeler for those oddball amps that aren't them, for sure.

You could buy the IK Multimedio SOLO unit, its very cheap used on reverb, that has dedicated reamp output.

Re-covering old ground, but the IK Axe Solo reamp output is kind of crap. The maximum output level is only -3dBu so it's barely going to tickle the amp hard enough to produce a full range of tones. Something that is about 15dB louder is a lot more useful for reamping (and tone capturing) IMO.

Is there some degradation of using a modelers Send (set to Instrument level) to make captures instead of an actual reamp box? I’ve used my HX Stomp and it’s worked fine, just that the signal levels were weak according to Tonex. I adjusted so the capture sounds hotter than intended and I never went back and made new ones since it takes awhile.

I’ve recently got my first BOSS pedal that has a buffer, would it be better to throw that between the send of the Stomp and the amp input?

I’ve made Tonex and NAM captures using my Helix as an interface. It worked better than my IK reamp box.

Might chalk the question up to the constant feeling I have with Tonex: ”I’m probably doing something wrong.” 😅

Y’all are making me question my choice of capture tech (and purchase stop of IKM stuff) with the sudden Tonex praise!

None of the capture stuff is without its flaws. Your best bet is to just make a choice and learn how to use whatever you get.

So I reluctantly launched TONEX to check out the Brown Sound captures. Did they reduce the time between white noise while trying out a pack? It’s like every 10 seconds or so. It’s so distracting while auditioning captures, I just closed the app and walked away.

How about a longer demo time whiteout white noise so we can actually experience the product before purchasing? I really want to like this software, but every time I open it, something else tells me to say fuck it.

You get 30 minutes of non white noise and then after 30 minutes the white noise kicks on every 10 seconds are so.

I think it's a fair trial period 🤷

Which is really too bad, because that would be an easy answer for making controlled, perfect captures every time.
@IK Multimedia any plans of doing a better version at some point, or perhaps a USB-equipped Tonex Capture box?
I realize most people just buy capture packs, but I’d rather make my own.

I didn’t get 30 minutes of non-white noise. As soon as I clicked on the pack and selected a capture, it went straight to white noise every 10 seconds. Tried another pack and got the same results.
