Dude is an absolute monster player, no doubt there at all. But he doesn't strike me as technology-proficient, after watching that video.

TONEX can definitely be run in a streaming setup like that, he's using OBS and a standard interface - nothing weird or out-of-the-ordinary. We've got a team here with folks who do have knowledge of these kinds of setup and have done it ourselves almost exactly the same way (we do have similar interfaces but I believe we ended up mostly running our SSL Matrix driven setup in our US studio for anything live most recently, which is a more complex setup likely more prone to issues honestly). I'm not a ToneX shill, but I'll say I think it's in poor taste for him to rip on ToneX (and UA) as he did, without first giving you guys the benefit of the doubt and contacting support, on YouTube to all his subscribers. It's a bit of a dick move, IMO.

Yeah, his issues are obviously with his configuration, not IK or UA. He was clearly frustrated and wanted to vent his frustration, but he come off like a child who was just coming down from a temper tantrum. Plenty of other YouTubers are using TONEX with their streaming setup.

I’ll admit that I was pretty harsh on IK when TONEX was released, but they’ve more than redeemed themselves. The new software and editor are orders of magnitude better than the previous iterations.

IK needed to hear the criticisms, and very much to their credit they have been listening and making major improvements.
One thing that has not changed for me with Tonex is whenever I can't crank up my tube amps, even attenuated, I plug into my Tonex Pedal or Tonex One, I play and I smile. My other digital solutions never did that nearly as well, and they all cost a lot more!

I think at this point the main thing IK needs to do is come out with a USB device that mimics the ease of use of the Kemper and QC, for capturing.

I was actually just telling someone that the only reason I haven’t fired it back up is because the software discussion around it and I know that if I turn it on and run into an issue, it’s likely I’ll never use it again, for much of the same reasons Andy mentioned in that vid, I have stuff I can turn on and it’ll do it’s thing immediately.
I do recall them updating it and a few people mentioning the improvements, but I haven’t checked it since and maybe the other capture devices that have come out since have stolen some of the attention away from people writing home about the improvements to the software.
I want to try those Dragon captures once I can start spending money on fun stuff again and it’s the only capture platform I’ve had any interest in.

Ah yes, that’s logical, I definitely wished we could have used whatever weight Andy Wood has, as one of the better guitarists on the planet with both feet in the amp/amp sim world and all his good dude characteristics, to gang up on you instead of, I dunno, hoping things got improved with the software.

What made the biggest difference IMO is making a separate editor for the hardware. This cleaned up the TONEX software drastically. There’s always room for improvement with anything, but the latest software is a move in the right direction.

Just know the pedal editor and Tonex are two seperate pieces of software.

Another video where I think Tonex did quite well compared to the others. And this even when they didn't bother using the advanced capturing with Tonex - which I think is a bit unfair to Tonex.
And also another video where Kemper seems to perform poorly with regards to accuracy compared to the source...

His criticisms of IK and UA are unwarranted especially when there’s plenty of warranted stuff on the table.
My ToneX captures are still hit and miss and they take 30-35 mins a pop (with a 3090 gpu) whilst NAM remains perfect 95% of the time. They also don’t have any kind of batch processing and a few creature comforts that NAM has caught up on. I did about 20-30 captures reamping the NAM file through an amp, exporting the files then uploading for batch processing and checking it an hour later. In comparison to do 2 ToneX captures I had to sit and wait for it to finish before I could do the next one.
I don’t find it enjoyable to dunk on things but it’s kind of disappointing to see the lack of advancement in these areas from IK. They’ve clearly made tons of revenue off this product and it’s been out for years. It’s kind of baffling how capturing is still so rudimentary, time consuming and a crap shoot on results. These are all probably simple things to fix but nothing has advanced.

I still recommend their pedal for people wanting a cheap way into this kind of thing. If I was just a player looking for a pedal it’s good enough to do the job and extremely affordable. Again, it’s just annoying that contributing to this ecosystem is a bit of a punish and results are so/so. If my results were consistently good and they had batch processing I’d be 2 feet deep into it, I just want them to do better

They don't really need to do anything. Most people who use capture tech aren't capturing amps. We're the minority, and aren't really the focus. The focus is on being able to avoid developing schematic based amp models, and just be able to throw out large stats about your packs and your eco-system at people to draw them in.
