IK Multimedia TONEX

Thanks for the answer, and for getting into the thick with us.

At launch I received the non-V2 Amplitube 5 MAX together with standard Tonex for 149.99. Some grievances with the content and info is already dealt with here so let’s leave it alone.

It does seem that later captures have gotten people excited, so I should probably demo some of the newer stuff and see for myself. The factory captures from launch were not what I was expecting. I know the tech works well at least from for example some JP2C captures I’ve used. With an additional toned instance with a boost in front I got just the lead tone I was after. But it took way too long to sift through free captures to find it for me.

Another question: are there any plans tonupdste the iOS/iPadOS apps? They seem abandoned as things are now.
No problem, happy to wade in muddy waters once in a while hopefully to help clear some things up.
As far as the iOS TONEX app, I don't have specific information as what I was told was that we are not abandoning iOS and have something in the works but it sounds like it might not be (or just be?) the TONEX iOS app. So I don't want to mislead, I guess the best I have for you at the moment is that something is going to happen on iOS and it isn't abandoned but not a lot of details beyond that.
I’d have thought so too but people have reported phase issues doing that. Plus I want it all saved down in one device. I assume the new Helix will be capable of doing it, but I’m very happy with the sounds I’m getting from Tonex.
I believe I've mentioned phase issues a couple of times to the team but not sure if there's something in the works. To be fair, it could also just be "we're always going to evolve TONEX so we'll handle that on future hardware that can manage it all on one device" and that might also just be a fair solution in general too.
@IK Multimedia - Quick question: Is a straight editor for the X-Gear pedals in the roadmap at all? I feel like they especially suffer from that lack. All IK pedals have the USB ports on them for recording and firmware updates, but given the crude displays, an editor would make them much more competitive.
Honestly, I don't see or hear anything about an editor for the X-GEAR pedals at this time. I might have to see if I can't prod a few hornet's nests, now, though.
Respect to Peter for posting here again and bringing the positive vibes. Things sometimes get heated but there is never any hard feelings. We're all in it together for the same reasons.
Thanks, no hard feelings from me either. I honestly can't believe what we have access to these days, makes me feel old but also still very lucky. If I had all of this when I was a kid learning guitar, well I'd probably still be wondering why I'm not much better for 40+ years of playing right now but it would still just blow my mind. :)

The biggest issue I have with Tonex is really the capture process. If they could come out with a USB interface that allows for Kempery, Quad Cortexy consistency every time, that'd rule.

A better capture device with default levels accounted for would be great, but even better would be batch processing. The shit takes a long time even on a potent computer. I would love to be able to capture a bunch of amps on my laptop, and then process them overnight on a different machine with a potent GPU.

Even better would be a network rendering process. But that’s probably getting a little nutty for this use case.

Why not create a capture super computer by shoving a bunch of Nvidea GPU's up Dave Mustaine's...oh wait, wrong thread!

Thanks for being willing to ask. It just seemed odd to me to enable direct recording from a modulation pedal and have a librarian app, but no editor.

Can someone tell me where the download link for the editor is? I sold my Tonex to someone I know, and I want to help him use it, but I can't find it anywhere and neither can he (and he has the Tonex registered and for the Tonex Max software).

It should install along with the Tonex software. I’ve got it on my machine, and I don’t even have any hardware.

Fwiw if I’m doing tonex captures I need to put my tonex hat on to get the best capture results. It’s things like
- Don’t push the gain too hard on the amp
- Don’t use a boost pedal
- Try and shave as much high end off the source tone as possible, the more high the more chance the capture will be a dud
- Mostly ignore their suggested levels and get it hot in the daw without clipping (it’ll be red in the GUI)

Following those I can get good results but even within that spectrum if I’m trying to do 5 captures of an amp, my my. It’ll realistically chew up 4-5 hours of my time because of their one by one workflow.

If they can fix some of those idiosyncrasies in capturing and have a better workflow I’d be all over it again. No hate from me this is just the reality of tonex and why I’m not really using it for captures anymore.

Right now with NAM I just reamp the 3minute file x amount of times for my captures. Then I bulk upload the lot to tone3000 and check it 30-40 mins later and it’s all done. It doesn’t hog the amp or pc in the process. Even if tonex let us do the reamps back to back and leave the training running overnight, that would be very helpful.

Heaps of the tonex packs I demod have been hit and miss. Jarrod’s tonewars packs are pretty good and so are Mendels. The new EVH pack seems to have the sauce cause that frankly sounds leaps and bounds above anything else out of ToneX.

I’d love to see these updates on ToneX or as part of a ToneX successor.

Same boat here. NAM is substantially easier and faster to work with despite Tonex looking more polished.

Has anyone gotten Error 213 while loading captures from ToneNet? I recently picked up a used Tonex One, created myself an account, registered the pedal and was replacing the presets with some captures using the editor. It was working fine for a while but now it threw this error.

@IK Multimedia - what is the fix for this? I’m not able to replace existing presets on my Tonex One.

ERROR 213: You have reached the maximum number of User Tone Models downloads.

I believe I answered another post elsewhere but this sounds like the TONEX SE that comes with the TONEX ONE unit is not properly installed/authorized. That limit is from the TONEX CS (free version) software. When you registered the TONEX ONE serial the TONEX SE software should have appeared in your IK Product Manager and you can install/authorize it from there.
