I Wish Gibson would F*#k off with this crap

The resale market for the Dean Schenker V guitar has gone through the roof 😔

I had the Standard once upon a time and it was crap. :idk I think only the USA Sig models were
worth a damn, and those have always been pricey.

Hope that helps. : :beer

I am so creeped out by him anymore. He killed the Norm's Marc.

He opens his "Gibson Collection Series" of vids by walking down some nameless
street and saying, "I am hear to meet my friend XYZ...... "

Yeah, sure. You just happened to be in the neighbourhood with a camera crew to
meet your "friend." So natural. So unassuming.

None of that bothers me (and I won't hold him against Norm, that's for sure). And he clearly is a guitar junky with loads of knowledge of its history and happy to be a part of carrying that legacy on into the future. Nothing surprises me about guys that were really into guitar, and then somehow managed to make ungodly sums of money from playing it, wind up wanting to collect lots of really expensive guitars. And some of the collections are really cool, and some of the collectors are fun to watch because you can see how giddy they are over the guitars as artifacts.

The one thing that REEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLY makes me cringe EVERY.DAMN.TIME., though, is the "what you are about to see may shock you" line.

I'm sure he did in private, I respect that he took the high road in public. Makes me want to check out his business.

I'm tired of keeping track of all the businesses I'm supposed to hate or cancel because of whatever. Seems like a small company having to be creative and come up with something original instead of copying someone else isn't exactly the biggest problem facing our world today.

I only have the capacity to invest myself in so many issues and Trademark laws are pretty low on my priority list.
You have plenty of capacity to make excuses for shitty business practices though.

Regardless of the arguments about valid protection of IP, it is clearly and blatantly obvious
that Gibson has been using it's massive bank accounts and lawyering up to bully smaller
builders. Emphasis on bullying.

Heritage is the only company I know of to successfully counter Gibson's tactics in the States.
Likely, because Gibson knew they could not bully Heritage in the same way, and that Heritage
probably has as much of a claim to the singlecut shape as Gibson does.

Heritage actually counter-sued Gibson, and then Gibson settled with them. Have to bully the bullies. If
you can afford to. Few can, though.

Warwick/Framus also one in a German Court, and the decision that was appealed all the way to
the German Supreme Court, where Gibson still lost.

Below is an interesting breakdown of the Heritage vs. Gibson Cage Match.

I think it’s lame, and I agree with Watt that I think they’d be better off supporting builders and creating a sense of community rather than wasting time on all the legal garbage. But I don’t really care enough to get bent out of shape over it.

I mean, the outcome here was that a small builder came up with a cool original design, sold their first one 3 seconds after listing it for sale, and have people waiting in line for more.

Hardly seems like the end of the world. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I had reservations about the Standard and never ordered one.
I’ve entertained the idea of the USA model recently but I’m kinda Frugal 😉
What might be a comparable V that’s a little more reasonable $ wise?

I also don't understand why so many manufacturers are so lazy.

Come on...I'm sure is not that difficult to make your own inspire-by shape instead of building the millionth stratocaster copy

I don't understand why Gibson keeps doing it.

The brand is so strong that doesn't need to fight over the shape, in my opinion. :idk
They think they lose sales on their massively overpriced guitars to other companies that have similar shapes... they are absolutely right... only, still nobody will buy their overpriced guitars even if they sue all the competition out the market.

Goober laws and regulations…

If you don’t proactively defend stuff, you lose it.

Same thing with commercially owned buildings and public easements

I understand that and I agree that they need to defend their headstock but fighting for the overall shape seems unnecessary to me.

I believe they are still selling pretty well, I mean somenthing like they hold the largest market share in the US.
