I Gotta Wonder About Fractal's, er, "Perception"

I don't get your point? Why is a touchscreen like a cup holder in a car? You don't need a touchscreen, there's others ways to operate a modeller. You can't substitute a cup holder in a car for anything else though.

Some people can get by just fine without cup holders (the first four or five cars I owned did not have any), but the people who never knew a world without them cannot understand how this is even possible.

Why? At some point you're going to need a cup holder in a car but you don't need a touchscreen. You might want a touchscreen or it could be a nice to have feature but it's not a essential. At some point a cup holder in a car is an essential item if you plan on driving any distance in it.

You obviously did not grow up in pre-cup-holder times. That’s why the emergency brake handle was a lever spaced juuuuuust about cup-width apart from seat cushion.

Nope. I've never had a car without a cup holder. I came close with an audi once because they thought it was an optional extra on a £45,000 car. I thought the salesman was joking when he first told me I had to pay extra for one.

It’s a necessity not a luxury in my area
I'm on the insurance for my sister in law's car. Whenever I need a car, I just borrow that. I live in London, our public transportation is really good (still not as good as it used to be) and I honestly didn't even need to take any driving lessons until I was 32 or so.

Driving in London is a bit of a nightmare. Around 4-7pm weekday evenings, it can easily take an hour to drive just 10-12miles. So it isn't something you really want to do unless you have to.

Where my new band rehearses is about 12miles from my house. I leave at 6:00pm and get there at 7:00pm!

Don't worry, I'm not an anti-car freak!

I start work at 3AM. Public transportation is not an option for me.

Fuck me, people are hung up about touchscreens.
Look, touchscreens is ONE way of solving a shitty UX. It's not the end all be all.

Fractal is certainly able to get a MUCH better UX without a touchscreen.
It's not as if slapping a touchscreen on everything will magically make the UX good. You need to actually focus on UX, with a dedicated UX designer. Then you need that person (or team) to actually be involved in the process of designing the physical units and not just the computer editors.
