Helix Talk

I’m just now coming around to give the Hx cabs a serious look. All my live presets were tuned in with York Audio stuff so I only glanced when the new cab engine was released in 3.5.

L6 did an amazing job here. I’m finding it effortless to sweep these cabs and find what I’m looking for. Having the low and high cut parameters right there is helpful as well.

Between the cabs and stumbling across the Placater I’m finding new life in the platform.

For those who want to have the audio based on the QC plugin on their physical helix, including the effects, I share the link. I hope you like it! Have a nice weekend. The helix is incredible.

Frankly, this is a weak spot in Helix IMHO. The only two models I like for boosting amps are the same you just mentioned - Pillars and Horizon. I struggle with even the usual suspects (Tube Screamer and SD-1) in the Helix. They just don't feel right to me.
Agreed. The Helix‘ Tube Screamer model is one of the worst of the current Amp Modeler generation. Compared to my Ibanez and Maxon pedals, it sounds far too muffled, and the clipping itself just sounds wrong. The SD-1 model is a little better, but needs a 3 dB volume block after it to have the same level as my real pedal. I would really like to have a better Tube Screamer in the Helix.

In my experience the OD1 in Neural DSP‘s Soldano SLO-100 X plugin is the one that sounds the most similar to my TS pedals.

One thing I’m a little baffled by is the idea of stopping the Helix, considering Line 6 has kept the “Pod” name and concept going for almost 30 years. In watching YT videos and reading articles you see Helix referred to as a recognizable symbol for a category of products the way the Pod was for decades.
We see the HX moniker way more than the Helix name these days. HX amps this, HX algos that, HX models, etc.

It's no wonder we wont see a product with a name Helix 2, because I'd wager they want to use the term HX to associate the generation of modeling, not get stuck in a naming paradigm.

Fun fact: I lost a comically long and brutal battle over the name "HX." I see continued confusion over the nomenclature to be additional validation that I was right. So... thank you?

If the decision was yours and your alone…for the next iteration, as in continuation of the current ‘flagship’…. would that be named Helix, HX or something different? Trying to see where your preference lies.

And for the next top tier modeling device, as in the next generation that makes Helix Floor a discontinued product I think you already said you would not call it ‘Helix 2’ but I’m feeling you wouldn’t have Helix or HX in the name at all. Is that right?

The opportunity to use 'Boogaloo' in a naming convention is good to ignore though...?

That's one of the many issues I had with naming a product "HX"—it started out as a very clear modeling ENGINE designator and turned into a PRODUCT designator (while continuing to be an engine designator?!)... which also forced us to rename "Helix Edit" as "HX Edit" after it had existed in the wild for years, even though it's still the editor for Helix SKUs... See? Plain as mud.

For the record, 95% of Line 6ers agreed with me. Can you tell I'm still a bit salty about it?

Personally, I sort of see "Helix" as its own brand, almost separate from other Line 6 products, and the name carries a lot of familiarity and weight—which is the whole point of branding. So presumably, if we ever get around to making a new flagship, I can only imagine it'd have to be called Helix Something... Or Something Helix. But not "Helix 2" or "Double Helix", because those names are lazy and dumb.

EDIT: Lazy and dumb for Helix. Absolutely nothing wrong with putting a number after one's product. <cough> DL4 MkII, AxeFX III <cough>

Helix Maximus

EDIT: Actually, I want a Helix Minimus

You could go old school and really mess with people by just calling the next one Helix.
