It is often also my favorite by far. It offers the choice of asymmetrical clipping ("up" mode) that also adds even harmonics or symmetrical clipping ("centre" mode) that generates just odd harmonics. Its bass and treble cut controls shape the sound in a very natural way (they are a kind of passive circuit in the real pedal) but at the end they don't allow to get some mid hump that may be helpful specially with mid-scooped amps (Blackface...), but in that case even a simple eq block after the OD boosting a little around 600-700Hz can do the trick. But I consider Timmy a "medium" gain pedal. Imho it's its best role.Timmy is probs one of my favorite drives, period. Good for adding dirt to a clean tone and for boosting/shaping a distortion tone.
Higher gain, I like the Hedgehog D9, even if its sweet spot is with the tone control just between 0 and 1 (and maybe closer to zero is even better).
Lower gain: both the Heir Apparent and the new Prize Drive are very interesting.
I still can't get a good relationship with the mid boosting ODs (Horizon Drive, Dhyana Drive, Stupor OD) with asymmetrical clipping, even if I can't negate that in the proper context their sonic characteristics (boosted mids, aggressive sound) are what it may be necessary and suitable.
