Do you actually use a Floor on gigs?

I did. For several gigs it's been my main unit.

I do, it’s my main live tool and has been for years through hundreds of gigs and I’ve never needed an LT display for anything….

Well, no idea what kinda gigs your playing, but outside under bright (and especially diffuse) light conditions, each and every UI element on the Floor turns invisible. Even indoor gigs with a lot of light are very critical, to put it carefully.

What gigs have brightly lit stages anyway?

See above.

Thing is, this issue is wellknown. In case you're not running into it, more power to you, but lotsa people are. For me it's been one of the main reasons to sell the Helix. The LT display mode showing you what the scribble strips show you on the Floor, while not night and day apart, is defenitely doing a better job.
Also, what drove me mad is that L6 simply didn't care about the issue. They could've modified the scribble strips so they were fully inverted depending on their status (instead of just using a slightly bolder and brighter font) and they could've come up with a dedicated live display mode (ideally monochrome with as much contrast as possible). But instead: nada.

I tried this tonight with the shelf EQ in front of the Placater Dirty. It's supposed to emulate the effect of the bright cap and treble peaker circuit in an 800/2204. I can't remember if I saw this in this thread or somewhere else. But it seems to bring the tone and feel much closer.

"LoGain -7db @ 720Hz
HiGain +5dB @ 950Hz
Level +7dB
The LoGain part is supposed to emulate the treble peaker part - the HiGain does the bright cap stuff that I think replicates a JMP 2204 mid gain setting that I was going for. Try maybe 400Hz for a later JCM model. Level boost compensates for LoGain being subtractive."

I believe that advice came from MR. MAJOR COMPLAINER himself ;)

This actually does a decent job at getting that vibe!

Still hoping for that stock 2203. 😁

Line 6 are a victim of their own success - it’s because their modelling has got to a point where it’s so accurate, people can no longer blame that for a model not sounding/behaving correctly. The 2204 has been interesting because it’s somewhat possible to diagnose the circuit of the original amp from the distance.

Everyone wins when Line 6 add a 2203 (and then a 2204, 2210, 2205, Jubilee, SL-X, 900 mkiii etc 😉)

Not sure about the 900. That just used diode clipping for distortion, didn’t it?

lots of cool amps use solid state gain stages to varying degrees. Jubilee, 2205/2210, JCM900 MKIII, JMP-1 Preamp, VS8100.

Lots of trendy boutique amps use zener diodes to clip the waveforms for a particular sound. As originated from Jose Arredondo’s mods, but used all over the place.

They’re just different sounds and circuits, they all have their uses.

If an AxeFX3 leaves from Canada at 7am going 190kph and @Digital Igloo starts editing an instruction manual in Los Angeles at 9am and @James Freeman starts rendering a comparison graph at 10:31, at what time does this thread become obsolete?
Answer: Never.
This thread is a crucial part of the history of music like The Beatles and should be taught in schools.

I put this in front of my goto Placator preset that I have dialed in to get close to Led Zep, GVF, etc. and it really opened up some sounds/tones I didn't hear before this morning. Good stuff for sure until we get a stock 2203!!
