Helix 2204 Mod

Fwiw, back in my HX Floor days, the 2204 Mod used to be my #1 platform for all dirt sounds, but I used it at extremely low gain settings (around 0.8) so I had more variety by using pedals (internal HX ones) in front.
Just fired up HX Native in the Belgian hotel (middle of nowhere) I'm sitting in and still like it, so I just jammed for some minutes. Not necessarily made for that kinda music, though, but if I had nothing else I'd be perfectly happy as well (rhythm is just the amp, lead has the Prize Drive and a bit of Vetta Comp in front).

Very nice!
I usually get those type of sounds from the Shiva / German Mahadeva (mids cranked), but I'll definitely give the 2204 Mod a spin.

Nice to have a solid reference on what to expect. I just don’t really vibe with these LJ circuits though, kind of fuzzy/soft/bloated to me. I can imagine in the 80’s, just getting more gain out of an 800 would have been mind blowing but these days I think most of the other famous mods have aged way better.

Another great LJ amp video from @2112

Still curious about that Line 6 model. And I suppose the other question would be about Children of Bodom tones. Not necessarily my favourite, but they’re somewhat distinctive and have their own vibe. I’m guessing the cabs are Marshall T75’s mic’d with an sm7b.

I begged Digital Igloo to add the VL1002 amp to their model queue once they acquired Ampeg, but to no avail. I'm pretty happy with the Bogner Ecstasy they added not too long ago, tho....

Absolutely zero reason why we wouldn't other than priority and... the fact we don't have one in the building. Would need to track one down.
Do you know how close the L6 2204 Mod is to a typical Lee Jackson modded Marshall? Presumably the Ampeg and Crate amps he did are production versions of his tweaks. Lee Jackson’s rack preamp would be another cool piece of history to have modelled.

GP-1000 would be super cool, even just for the CoB thing.
