Keep the 5153.

Honestly, I don’t know how to clean channel sounds on that 2000 because I never heard in the 15+ years, but I wasn’t a fan of the overall sound of the amp to begin with. It very well could have just been the way my buddy set it up, but it was just kinda ‘generic high gain amp’ to me back then. To be fair, he was up against the other guitarist‘s Mark IV for most of that time and to me, it was like putting a Fractal next to a Nux.

If you are even any way tempted by this trade, make sure the DSL is one with a fixed board revision. You can probably find the details on google.

I'd just keep the EVH.

It's a great question that reflects how important it is to know someone's situation. "Gig volume" is an enormously variable term, even within the context of a rock band. I've been to some amazing rock concerts that weren't really all that loud, and I've been to at least one arena show that was stupidly loud to the point that the music was incidental to just protecting your ears. When I see "gig volume" I think "who's gig?"

I play with some loud trumpeters!

I played one show with a full 20-something piece orchestra and they sat me right in front of the brass section and it was insane. Like feeling my whole body vibrate and vision go fuzzy kind of loud. I’ve played quieter rock concerts!
