I'm hoping I can get by with my MIDI Captain, which I'll have to break out and start getting used to again. I've read a few comments in the past about FAS MIDI implementation and how it isn't as straightforward as one might imagine?
I'm going to have to read up, but a big part of me wants to go nice and slow with the box and take my time, not really wanting to incorporate footswitches at first. I wonder how far I can go using the front panel with no manual? Yes I am a masochist.
Thanks, I hope so!
It's not that bad...Wow, global MIDI setup for each block? I was looking for some kind of tutorial or at least a list of MIDI commands but it looks like all of that is up to the user to configure.
In case you are not aware, there's also a Wiki: https://wiki.fractalaudio.com/wiki/index.php?title=Category:FM9This section on the FAS forum is gold!

I concur, it doesn't look particularly baffling and I like the idea of global CC assignments per block type. I wouldn't have to set those up on a per-preset basis like I do with the HX stuff (I would just try to stick to the same scheme throughout my presets) and the channel/scene changing is similar to HX devices (except with FAS you get to set your own message number it seems). It's not that bad...
And you can be more "generic" with the midi control of blocks.
Assign CCs to External Controllers.
Assign said External Controllers to the Bypass of blocks.
Then use those as you see fit per preset.
For blocks, it's all CCs.
There's only 128 CCs in the midi spec and X block types times Y instances of each block is already a large number.
So they leave it to the user to choose what they need.
Aside from block channel and scene changes, it's all standard PC and CC commands.
Block / Scene are also CC but done in a different way.
Ho boy! I'll have to wait until next week, if at all. Last update was that late trailer two days agoYES!! My fractal FM9 turbo mkII is out for delivery today!
