Fractal Talk

"Fractalverse" makes me want to throat punch a complete stranger.

I've been back in this thread, reading about @BROCKSTAR and his Rollercoaster ride into the Fractalverse. It's been getting me curious again.

I can't help thinking about form factor though. I'm not into the big rack form but I don't want the brains on the floor. I don't really care about running two amps at once so a rational thought was controlling an FM3 with my Paint Audio MIDI Captain. Then came all the comments about FOMO for the bigger, more powerful units and how the FM3 was a gateway to them.

So, at 1:30am I stumbled upon a used Axe FX III on GC's website for a pretty good price and jumped with a 45 day return window to figure out if I want to keep it.

I've been a good boy, this is my first gear purchase of 2025 and I've wanted to try a FAS device since I heard about them over 10 years ago.

By buying used I hope I've saved enough money to purchase more hours in the day.
Nice! I think you'll really enjoy it, and make some cool tunes with it.

I have fc-6 coming but i just know myself, i'll end up with the fc-12 sometime I am sure for the floor and then complain that my little midget legs can't reach them but i want it anyway lol
I used the FC-6 exclusively for four years. I added four external stand in switches and three EV-1 expression pedals. I offloaded functions like tap tempo, tuner, master layout selection, and view increment to the external switches since I wanted access to those functions at all times. It was totally functional and very flexible, but I still pined after the FC-12.

I snagged a mint condition used FC-12 mark 1 for a steal last year and I have been enjoying it. Having 12 buttons available at all times (no need to change views) and having every button labeled is a massive luxury. I had to drop down to two expression pedals to get everything to fit on my board, but I rarely used all three anyway.

Enabler!

*keeps watch on reverb for fc-12 now*

Sorry for my bad influence but awesome :D
Haha, it's been a long time coming

Having one of these on the floor is wonderful. The multi-function footswitches make the possibilities seem endless.

I'm hoping I can get by with my MIDI Captain, which I'll have to break out and start getting used to again. I've read a few comments in the past about FAS MIDI implementation and how it isn't as straightforward as one might imagine?

I'm going to have to read up, but a big part of me wants to go nice and slow with the box and take my time, not really wanting to incorporate footswitches at first. I wonder how far I can go using the front panel with no manual? Yes I am a masochist.

Thanks, I hope so!

If you're not looking to spend too much money for a foot expression controller or two then look into these Nektar ones. I have 1 for my fractal vp4 and works fine and another for fm3 which isn't here now but will be used for fm9 when it comes. I also have 2 more coming tomorrow for my boss vg-800 and boss gm-800 and they work fine for it too. Only $20 a piece! For home/studio use I think they're fine!

It's really nice having all those options.

I used the front panel with no printed manual, only looking up things in the manual online as needed, for years. I finally got a FC-12 and it was a (cliche alert) game changer.

Now I'm mostly using the FM9 and have been tempted to use the FC-12 with it but I haven't been able to come up with a layout that makes sense for that many footswitches; in effect a FC-21.

I'm fortunate in that I'll have room for both in the majority of places we play but still it feels like overkill.
