Fractal Talk

So spent sometime last night before bed but I did manage to make a layout that will show 24 effects on the fc-6. Using 4 view options / pages. That's 6 effects per page and works per preset that I can flip through and at the end I got a switch that you hold for a few seconds and that will convert back to the beginning. Using up all of my view 1 and view 2 options / pages etc.. And they did indeed show which effects are on or in bypass mode ready to be used and which effects are not used (with a message on screen indicating that effect is not in that certain preset) in each preset automatically.

The issue is only 24 slots and no more view options / pages left etc.. So I have to pick and choose only 24 effects to display at all times. So while some presets may show something on or bypassed and ready to use on the main hardware / editor screen... The fc-6 won't be able to show it due to me not being able to display that certain effect because of no room for more effects to be displayed among the view options / pages.

However with 24 effects laid out in 4 pages, I can add the main essentials. Just gonna be hard to pick and choose which ones are the ones I want to display the most. All drive, reverb, delay blocks are definite displays and some modulation like chorus/flanger etc..

Having more view options / pages would fix this though, then I could add all of the effects and have them ready with every preset!

You can configure any of the eight layouts however you would like. Just because the factory default is to have a layout for presets doesn’t mean you have to use it for that purpose. If you want more switches dedicated to effects then just edit another layout for that purpose.

Also, there are per preset overrides that will allow you to reassign up to 24 switches with functions specific to the individual preset you have loaded. If you don’t have a multitap delay in your current preset and you’d rather have a button for drive block #3 you can program the per-preset override for that specific preset.

That sounds like you are doing something totally wrong.

Are you aware of per-preset switches? They will allow you to set up a bunch of footswitch assingments that apply only to those presets, and then you have a view or two where those footswitches are set to per preset switches.

What I am trying to make is a template / layout that will show ALL effects that fractal has to be displayed on the fc-6 and be ready to turn on/off depending on whatever preset is loaded and which effects are displayed in that preset. I'm not talking about per-preset type things where I can make things specifically for a certain preset. I know about that :)

I just want a layout that can display every single effect on the fc-6 with multiple pages I can scroll through and be able to turn on/off whatever each preset allows me too automatically etc.

"You can configure any of the eight layouts however you would like"

This may be helpful then? So i could like turn scenes layout into another effects layout and have another 24 and assign a function to switch between 2 layouts that have 24 effects each ready?

Sorry, I'm still learning my way around fractal stuff!

But if the effect does not exist in your preset, what's the point of having a dedicated footswitch for it? Per preset footswitches are absolutely perfect for managing what your preset actually contains.

Make a template preset that has all that configured to your liking, then any preset you make from that template will be already set up for footswitching.

Assign e.g layout 1 footswitches 1-3 to per preset footswitches. Now every preset that has per-preset footswitches 1-3 configured in the preset will show the function on those footswitches on the FC6.

The purpose is for playing factory presets or other peoples presets etc. I am not making my own presets right now so i dont need to make per preset things right now.

Just looking for a way to be able to turn on or off all effects per preset that are allowed, that is being used at the time. Not my own custom presets etc

Probably making this more complicated for myself then it should be lol.

I would assume a lot of factory presets have them configured tho. Or at least they should.

Other people's presets are generally a waste of time IMO, and creating your own to your liking will be worth the effort. The quick build feature in Axe-Edit is very fast to spam in the fx you want.

Well right now I'm new to it and I'm just getting a feel for it. So I'm learning and playing through the factory presets for a while. A lot of them sound good to me!

You can set it up how you’re envisioning it Brock. I have two “pedal” layouts on an FC12 that are setup exactly that way and even though those were made for a dedicated kitchen sink preset, the layouts work on other presets.

You will need to concede one switch to be a utility switch to jump you between layouts, but you can absolutely dedicate every FS to effects that may or may not be used in that active preset.

There is an effect layout. Use that as the base layout and duplicate as needed. Then just set each switch to your preferred effect block types. Set the tap to engage or disengage the block, then set the hold function to increment +1 from channels A-D and wrap. Then you can long press to cycle through channels of each effect. (Which don’t have to be “effects” you can use it on any block, like amps, you can cycle through amp channels, or have a FS switch between cab blocks etc)

Technically, if you really wanted to you could utilize all 8 layouts to give you 96 dedicated effects footswitches.

Just have the hold function of one switch on View 1 go to View 2, and the hold function of one switch on View 2 go to the next layout. I’d also make a hold function on a second footswitch go back to previous.

This seems like a terrible way to work with it to me, but if it’s what works for you, you could do it

Yeah it does seem like it's a lot to cycle through, definitely not made for live playing haha.

I don't know, I'll give it more thoughts.

The battle is always between indulgence and practicality, but with the FC’s you can pretty much configure things in any way you can possibly dream up. Just don’t let the dream turn into a nightmare. :ROFLMAO: I tap out after it involves toggling between more than two layouts, but that’s manageable, particularly if you keep your high use blocks on a primary layout.

Yep, you’re in the “There is SO MUCH to play with, and I want access to ALL of it RIGHT NOW” honeymoon phase. Many of us went through the exact same thing. Eventually you’ll figure out what you really need versus what you just want to play around with, and your presets & FC layouts will become much more streamlined and efficient.

Until then, knock yourself out. Just try not to poke your eye out.

When this Axe 3 arrives, if it ever arrives, it better melt my face right off my ear frames.

If it ends up not ever making it, at least I've spent a good few days building some of the best sounding Helix presets I've ever made.

The first few dozen or so factory presets are a great starting point, and just recently all the factory presets were revamped for the latest firmware. You'll have to download them & install them (which I haven't done yet), but so far the response on the Fractal forum has been very positive.

I might touch on a few factory presets at some point but I really want to start by importing my own IRs and dialing in some of my bread and butter sounds
