Fractal Talk

That’s wise, neither do I :banana

Nah, shipping got delayed; it’s supposed to be here Monday, so I’ve spent the week takin it back to the old school…

… cuz I’m an old fool who’s so cool
The Crate GX-15 was the first amp I owned! It actually wasn't bad sounding, at least when I figured out that I should turn the mid knob up from zero. You know, because I believed all that "Metallica puts their mids on zero" talk... :facepalm

I wouldn't be surprised if my settings were pretty much what you have in there...

Sweet! Man, I wish I had all of my old Tab books from the 1980s and 90s.

A lot of them are out of print. :idk So many great memories! :love

I’m so glad I still have them! I have so many memories of sitting with that guitar and that amp playing through those same books

And I’ve been in a nostalgic’80s mood lately

It was my first too! Before it I was plugging into the mic input on an old karaoke machine

I don’t set any other amps that way (usually I’m big on mids), but for some reason I have fun setting this amp that way, especially when I’m playing stuff like those books. I guess it’s a nostalgia thing

So you guys don’t lose all respect for my ability to dial in an amp - I’m playing Yankee Rose right now and these are my amp settings on my fm3 :rofl

A great amp offers a level of interaction, immediacy, and immersion that has yet to be matched with a modeling device. It is the purest way to experience electric guitar and I think everyone owes it to themselves to have a good amp if it is feasible financially.
I agree but to me the key to that sentiment is "A great amp".

I still have my Riveras, Fryettes, and '60s Fender combos for a reason but I would never say that the average generic tube amp sounds better than my Axe FX and I play the Fractal gear much more often than my tube amps.

My Sig:X, Deliverance 120, Rivera Knucklehead Reverb as well as my Super Reverb, Vibrolux Reverb, and Deluxe Reverb all offer unique playing experiences that even when compared to Fractal emulations that sound the same still offer a playing experience that's uniquely satisfying.

I love my Fractal gear but I love my tube amps as well. They may not be selling as well in the big box stores but there's still a diehard group of us who will always want them.

Digital may have replaced vinyl in the major sales market but people are still playing records to this day.

Hey guys, just bought an FM9 with the sale and was checking out Tone Factor's XR IR's. They seem to be ultra-realistic.

1. Does anyone have experience with these XR IRs in the FM9?

2. I also don't know much about IRs... I have been on Kemper only for the past 6 years. Do I just pick an XR IR that I like and use that in the cab block no matter what amp block I use? OR do I change the XR IR/cab block depending on the amp model I use? For example, if my clean sound is a Fender amp and I use one particular XR IR, when I swap to a Dumble amp, should I also change the XR IR/cab block to a different IR?

1. First time I hear about tone factor, no experience...

2. There's no rule.
If you want 100% authenticity the cab should follow the amp, but with time I realized that constantly switching IRs during a live performance is pointless and often also deleterious for various reasons, so in the end decided to stick to just one that I really like and build all my tones around that.
From time to time I change it but all presets for a given set all use the same IR.

Anyway, the fm9 already has more than 2000 IRs and countless combinations can be obtained with dynacabs, so I'd explore those before buying 3rd party cab packs.

Makes sense thank you!! Yeah I’ll mess with the stock stuff before buying anything. Do you have recommendations on maybe like 3 cabs I should use to get started? I usually play fender deluxe, matchless, dumble style stuff in P&W style. I just don’t want to spend a whole week testing out all 2000 cabs 😅

I have another question on layouts for yall. Can I set up the FM9 to do this:

Switch 1 - scene 1
LONG press switch 1 - scene 2

Switch 2 - scene 3
LONG press switch 2 - scene 4

Switches 3-9 - various effects
LONG press switches 3-9 - different effects

I’m sort of a kitchen sink preset type of person. Not sure if I even have enough DSP to do this though.

Maybe instead of using scenes, different presets?
