Fractal Audio Systems VP4 - Virtual Pedalboard

Nice! Sadly I have to send mine in for repair. One of the encoders has been wonky from the beginning. That means about two weeks without the VP4

Mine just got here, I don’t see the warning on the plastic bag the VP4 was shipped in stating I can’t put my head in it, so does that mean this is the kind of plastic bag I CAN put over my head?!

The vines always get me

Someone told me once that my apartment looked like Poison Ivy’s lair as if that was a bad thing. There were real vine plants on a wall in the living room, before I killed them in the last few months, that kinda removed the fake-vine aspect of the fake ones. Gotta re-plant them with some food, those things never truly die.

There’s a 2nd function to all the vines and LED lighting, but that requires hallucinogens.

Since I need to wait a bit to get my board wired up () I figured I’d just play around with the VP4 for a bit and learn it before jumping into programming it with the Morningstar stuff. I was definitely cocky assuming I’d jump right on the VP4 in 4CM the first time I turned it on. :roflAs always, @2112 can be counted on to have a video covering the function you’re looking for and once that was 4CM was turned on in the setup menu, THEN I jumped right into the VP4 in 4CM without watching/reading anything else.

It’s interesting; I’ve never once felt compelled to learn the front panel of my III or FM9 and have always gone with the software editor without a second thought, but I haven’t even downloaded the VP4 editor and this is the first time I’m giving it a thought. I’m sure I’ll end up using it, but I thought it was interesting how it seemed natural to learn the on-unit controls right away.

Hahahah I had a preset with the analog delay loaded when I was testing the 4CM and thought something was wrong because I couldn’t get the repeats/mix cranked nearly the same as I can when I dial in my presets on the III or FM9, but once I changed delays I was good to go and after that everything worked and sounded as expected; badfuckingass.

I think I’m going to use the Drives a lot more than I expected to, everything I’ve used so far with the Plexi50 has been great. And the compressors, both of which will free up some spots in my ML5 for something else. The Freqout would be nice to add to this board.

The Keeley Comp+ and Lovepedal Vibronaught are coming off the board. :rofl

Those comps are way too fucking good to not use and while I’m still going to hunt for a vibe (that might not even exist) I was digging the FAS Vibe more than the Lovenaught. I’m going to put the Freqout on the board instead of the Comp and I was considering putting the VP4 Input side in a loop but I can’t think of any time I’ll use it after the dirt pedals and the Right side needs to go to an effects loop.

Man, when I got to those Dynacomps I melted. Playing with a compressor is a new thing for me and I’ve only been using that Keely Comp+, the only time I’ve used compressors in the AxeFX was when I was dialing in Gilmour tones a while back. The dynamic differences between playing into a real cab and studio monitors really comes into play here, but through studio monitors the lessening of dynamics is so much more apparent using a compressor than it is through a real cab and just switching through the different compressors, I definitely just realized how people can get the compressor bug in the guitar world.

I said this at the FAS forum, but I definitely got the complete Fractal experience by ordering a Fractal product on Monday, having it show up Friday and it already has an update waiting for it while it replaced existing gear in a no-brainer fashion. You’d think after what I already own I’d have known but I really didn’t utilize the 4CM setup to its full extent when using the FM9 with my EVH head. I’m about ready to plow through the dirt pedals because those are all going to be quite different through a cab than monitors as well.
