Couldn't talk about this before, but this is basically the EVH version of the Tonemaster series of amps, ala Tonemaster Twin, Tonemaster Deluxe, etc. Like the Tonemaster cousins, I think it's pretty damn expensive for what's still a single model modeling amp. But perhaps the simplicity will appeal to people. Obviously the Tonemasters have at least been a moderate success, for them to continue on this path.

Would have been cool if you could "switch the tubes" to the EL34, but I'm sure they'll come out with more amps. Also wish they offered this as a head.

I think the ToneMaster series has been a big success for them. Not something I am interested in, but I certainly get why a lot of people prefer the simplicity of a single combo amp, just without tubes, with better volume control, and lighter weight.

That said, give me a FR-10 and a Tonex One any day for smaller, lighter, cheaper, and far more versatile with tones and feel that are as good or better. The pain that is Tonex software is not THAT bad to make up the difference.

Yes, but after trying them side by side, the smaller lighter 10" easily outweighs the sonic differences for me. But, if you want a 12" and the EVH look, that's definitely a better path for anyone who can handle setting up at least one preset on a more capable digital device.

No I don’t think it does. The “6L6” moniker will confuse the heck out of people. EVH has 4 6L6 5150 III heads already, and there’s two variants of the original.

I agree, it's 100% stupid. For starters, my shop is going to be an EVH dealer, so I'd seen this weeks ago. When my buddy (shop owner) showed it to me, he said "this is interesting; a digital preamp with effects, with a tube power amp."

I said no, there are no tubes in it, read closer. Also, there are no effects, just reverb. Immediately he thought it was misleading, and stupid.

I'm going to need to see some actual prices and weights. If it's actually $1700 then it's more money than the tube version. If it's closer to $1200 that may make a little more sense. Also while 40 pounds is certainly lighter than the 65 pounds (!!!) of the tube version, it's still pretty hefty.

Are they releasing a head? That would make way more sense than a combo. They already have 1x12 cabs with the same speaker in it. The head would definitely be a lot lighter than the tube version, should be a lot cheaper, and would likely sell very well.

First thing I looked for was the weight. One trip crew + generic 5150 III tone without the tubes = a big no thank you.
