Probably the most interesting aspect of this whole phenomenon is how quickly everyone jumps to conclusions about what is happening and how little emphasis there is on the discovery/data collection process. Being open to explanations that counter our intuitions serves an important role in gaining a more objective and complete understanding of the world we live in, wherever that takes us.
