Dream Theater Megathread NEW SONG POSTED!!!!!

Well, as I speculated, I guess the promoters are confident Portnoy being back will increase their draw, as DT has announced some tour dates later this year, An Evening With, which in the past has meant no opening act, and a long show, including the first show at the O2 Arena, which has a capacity of 20,000 seats.

Cool!

Going to be interesting to see how LaBrie fairs this tour. He was pretty rough on that last one and there was a ton of backlash about it. Probably didn't help having him sing immediately after Devin Townsend, either. I'm stoked about the Evening With shows, I couldn't ask for a better way to bring Portnoy back in. I'll travel for this show if I have to, but with the amount of smaller acts I've never even heard of booking the Hard Rock lately, they better come down here!

And those tour dates!! Tour starts with 11 dates in 11 days!! Who tf do they think they are?? Youngest guys in the band are 56!!

They aren't 70, playing Jumpin Jack Flash, ffs!

This sounds extremely cool!

My C&W-loving ex-wife and I attended the SFAM show in DC, and during the ride, she became quite interested in the whole story behind the songs' lyrics. It was a unique bonding for us.

I always found it fascinating that they all (except for JR, I think) contributed to the lyrics of the entire albums' songs, in a way that tied the whole storyline together. I mean, it's one thing if 1 person writes the whole thing, but to have 4 of them all writing to the same basic idea seems quite difficult to me.

Never heard this before. Some really unique insights, not to mention raw guitar tones! :rawk

@DrewJD82 you ever hear this?

There are many other songs, but I can't figure out how to link to the whole thing.

This one's really raw. His guitar sounds like Matt Belamy's, like maybe he was trying out some fuzz pedals...?

I've never heard these!!! Very cool hearing this stuff being written and right away you hear an example of the first idea being the best idea, "Maybe we should break into a...." ::whole band breaks into riff that kicks into the song::

Considering the time frame this came out in, it sounds like he's got a signal coming out of one of his effects units. That doesn't sound like a mic in front of a cab at all. Or maybe a Palmer simulator tapped off one of the effects sends.

Mike loves his movies.

In either one of my listens to Scenes From a Memory, or watching The Green Mile, I recognized a scream used in both.

It's from the movie scene where Hanks is reading the court papers out on the bleachers, early in the movie, and they flashback to the farmhouse where the wife screams when she discovers her daughters missing.

It's this scream:
