Dream Theater Megathread NEW SONG POSTED!!!!!

Ola and Matty tour JP's new rig for the tour.

Wow! All the power & flexibility of the Axe FX, yet they still added quite a few new toys for this tour!

A real rack 2290, a 2290 pedal, the Boss EVH SDE dual delay, & 2 MXR stereo choruses. Unreal!! :chef

And a few more pedals I don't recall seeing. Even guitar gods like to geek out on new gear! :beer

Just watched this, absolute insane rig.

I feel like they are jumping through a shit ton of unnecessary hoops just to make JP happy. I just don't see any other reason why you would have all those pedals and the real 2290 when the Axe-Fx 3 would easily do all that.

It would probably only take a few hours for someone like Cooper Carter to completely clone what they've got setup for effects in the Axe. There is absolutely no reason why the Boss SDE3000 clone or the 2290s need to be in that rig. I can see the arguments for the amps and the analog drives, but the digital delays are just over the top redundant.

Hahahah Petrucci’s been doing “just for the fuck of it” stuff in his rigs for a while, the pedals generally rotate and there’s very little that couldn’t be recreated in the AxeFX, I’m sure it can handle two old school MXR Chorus replications just fine.

Gotta figure, dude’s a gear nerd and he’s said before that the only time he really gets to play with everything in a way to fully enjoy it is during live shows, even if he’s not keeping a journal of “Really liked the Boss chorus for that one part….”, it’s most certainly just fun to try different shit in a live setting like that.

I bet part of it is it's easier to run a pedal in a loop and call it up when desired, than it is to RTFM. :rofl

I mean look at the preset on the III. I doubt they're using any scenes or channels, and instead just turning those parallel effects on/off.

Yeah that's gorgeous! But where's the spittoon? :rofl

Portnoy gets 2 new $40,000 kits; John only gets a new guitar and a few pedals, and a new amp wrap! :D

Yeah, John's only got one now but by the time they start the US tour he'll have 20 of them while the current 20 go back in storage with the other 400 EBMM's and ALL his rigs from over the years. :rofl

Actually I did see 4 other colors he hasn't had before-
Arctic Aurora
Spice Melange
Gravity Green
Red Nebula

But yeah, somebody pays more in storage fees for all the gear he's got than my entire income! :columbo

He needs to be happy and make sponsors happy too, I guess.

Mike, "If I have to play to a click live there will be no Reunion." :rofl

I just love that there are real bands not wanting to use tracks, not having
every fucking note tied to a goddamn machine.... clickety click.... and not
being locked into a pre-meditated, totally choreographed show that is like
Britney Spears meets Rock/Metal.

Maybe there is a Santa Claus after all. :idk

Fight The Good Fight!! :pitchforks
