Dream Theater Megathread NEW SONG POSTED!!!!!

I'm honestly enjoying this song more than expected and I love it.

Is a more-of-the-same kind of song but with intriguing the-same ingredients instead of the boring ones.

I am giving it another spin as I write this. Its a good track. I think it bodes well for the album. The vocals are kind of lack luster, but we all know that James is getting older. I'd rather that he limits the range and sticks with something that he can realistically deliver live. The lyrics are a bit cryptic, but I'd bet that they fit within the story of the album (guessing it is another concept album). Instrumentally, the track is full of ear candy. JP sounds great with that dryer tone as well. I think the dual detune sound was being used too frequently, so this is a nice reprieve.

Agreed, I like JP's dryer lead sound as well. I love a good lush delay sound, but his tone has been too thick the last few years (imo, of course.)
Like, a double chocolate cake doesn't need an additional layer of caramel inside. It's just gonna make me throw up! :sofa

I swear I am hearing a familiar melody or 2 in the new song. Anyone else? :idk

I just did a Google search for something, and came across DreamTheaterForums. Man I thought I was a DT nerd; Those people are nucking futz! Analyzing every little detail like some people do re the Fractal UI. UFB

that Petrucci tone is just awesome. It’s really raw and direct I love that. It gives the sensation you are really next to him in the recording room.

And I just love how Portnoy is saying « hey guys, I’m back! » with just some high toms fills. Those toms tones are just so recognizable lol.

4 days until the tour kicks off at the O2 Arena, which looks to be just about sold out! 20,000 seats! Way to go! Can't wait to see some videos. :rawk

I'm curious about what the setlist will be.
I guess they won't play songs from the new album until February

They'll play in Milan on October 25th but I can't make a 400+400 km trip, even for Portnoy return. I'm so full of work I can hardly piss.

I'm a bit sad about it, honestly. I've stopped going to see them live when Mangini joined the band and hoped for Portnoy to return for all these years and now I can't celebrate with them.

I'd pay the ticket just to see the audience reaction for Portnoy entrance.
I'd might cry of joy if I were there.

less than 24 hours til the first show!! Hoping for some uploads!

YouTube is gonna be fillllllled with them. There wasn't supposed to be filming for the Gilmour warm-up shows but the whole thing was online from hundreds of uploads before the venue cleared out. :rofl

Not me. I'm anxious to hear more new songs, assuming they play any. It's been an entire year since Portnoy rejoined, dammit!

Metropolis PT1
Overture 1928
Strange Deja Vu
The Mirror
Panic Attack
Barstool Warrior
Hollow Years (w/ bebop outro….fucking Ruddess)
Constant Motion
As I Am
Night Terrors
This Is The Life
Under A Glass Moon
Vacant
Stream Of Consciousness
Octavarium
Home
Spirit Carries On
Pull Me Under

I’d be pretty happy with that!

I think this is going to be another rough tour for LaBrie. Not off to a great start here. He does sound better later in the set. His choices in changing things up will always perplex me. Seems he’d be better off just saying “I’m not going to hit a single high note in these songs so I can save it for these others”, instead he mixes it up and half the time he sounds taxed even when he’s singing the ‘easier’ way.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if that set list changes a bunch by the time they come to the US. But right now, it's pretty damn good.

Except for Pull Me Under!!
