Do You Enjoy Play Your Electric Acoustically?

I like it with some guitars, with others I don't. I own an Epiphone LP that just sounds gorgeous unplugged. Still thinking about ways to capture a little of that sound when amplifying it. My two main guitars however sound pretty lackluster, but I still like it occasionally because there's nothing helping you with sustain and what not.

I have a neck through that has a very distinctive snap and pop to it when played dry. Part of it is pretty audible through an amp. Completely gone through modelers / plugins.
Only with that guitar, don't know if it's because it's neck through or some other phenomenon going on.

All the time - some of my electrics sound really nice acoustically, my Suhr Modern Satin in particular is very resonant.

Yes, I often play my electric guitars without plugging them in. It is mostly a result of not having much time to play or being lazy. I can play quietly at night comfortably seated rather than standing with my headphones or IEMs tethering me to the amp wall.

I recall a time or two as a teenager where my girlfriend would proclaim I loved the guitar more than here...I think she was right haha!

Never, my Axe is on 24/7 and I have a plugged in guitar right beside me at all times.
I used to practise unplugged all the time when I was younger though.

I’ve talked about this before but I like both. Unplugged to work on articulation and picking technique, plugged/cranked to work on string muting and high gain riffing.

A great guitar should be all there unplugged. Sustain is mostly in the acoustic properties .

When I’m learning new music I always start by playing it unplugged. It helps me avoid the distraction of gear and focus on learning the music itself.


The only problem is that it makes me sort of not like my plugged-in sound because unplugged is so much more balanced

Every bit this. Once I'm used to the kinda pling-y experience, it feels quite connected, especially on the Epi LP I already mentioned. You rather feel the sound through your belly instead of listening to it.

If you’re buying an electric guitar it has to pass the playing it acoustically test first and foremost. Everything starts with it working acoustically. If you’re in any doubt after this you should just hand it back.

I play my electrics unplugged all the time. I can’t keep an electric guitar that doesn’t sound good when I play it acoustically.
