I hadn’t seen that one before. I like it! A triple is interesting. Reminds me of a Triumph.

Yes, I've never tried a triple, myself. My current bike is an inline 4 and before that I had a v twins and parallel twins. Apparently the xrs900 is an absolute blast to ride and great combo of pep/horsepower and light weight. Looks-wise, it's their "neo retro" spin on the MT-09. Basically the same bike dressed up differently. I would love to try a Triumph! That's where my heart is, looks-wise, with bikes, even though my current one is modern sport bike (Suzuki GXS S1000GT+).

Triples (at least Triumphs, anyway) are a fun, interesting beast. Definitely a different feel than either a Ducati V-Twin or any of the IL4’s. The XRS series looks awesome; definitely on my radar now too.

Probably not worth it, but also maybe worth it? I'd probably spend more than $50 of time refreshing the package tracking page.

Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things, but I'm hoping my rep was confusing the shipping and delivery dates.

So I just got a call from my SW rep, who still hasn't canceled the order. Honestly, don't know how to react, but it kind of irritates me. Maybe I'm reading it wrong:

"Just wanted to give you a quick shout here about this order before I cancel on it. Um, I want to see if there's maybe something we could work out because I know we're doing this on the 36 month financing and whatnot. I don't know if, uh, wherever else you're ordering from has the same financing or not, but I have had you a spot in line for this, you know, since June, so I don't want to lose a deal. Um, I, I, work on commission. Um, I do get paid based off of margins. That's why we're usually pretty strict on, on discounting stuff. Um, so if I discounts them and then we'd have no margin in it, then I don't make any money on it, and if I've been talking since June about this, then I'd, kind of want to get paid on it, at least. Um, so give me a shout back if you get a chance, see if we can't work out a deal in some way."

For what it's worth, I'm one of those idiots who NEVER asks for a discount on gear. I'll look for sales and stuff, but I've never — since I was a 15-year-old in a music store — asked the guy to knock a hundred bucks off. (I'm also really bad at buying cars). And furthermore, I told him specifically that I didn't want it on financing and was more interested in the Bonus Bucks.

I think I'll just email him and tell him to cancel (and not say I'd like to be assigned a different rep like I'm thinking about saying), but thought I'd throw it out to your thoughts first.

Yeah this is unprofessional on their end.

Maybe just seeing the text makes it worse but he's basically begging you to keep the order, making it seem like you're the bad guy for finding a better deal, pushing financing, and giving a sob story about his pay.

All red flags 😮 very similar to mine though. I'm just done with SW outside guitars.

That would definitely irritate me. So he’s telling you he can’t give you a discount because he won’t make enough money, and he doesn’t want to lose your order because he wants the money. It’s all about him making as much money as possible. That’s the part the sales guy is supposed to keep to himself, even though we all know it’s true. I would probably tell him to get fucked at that point. If he was a real salesman he would know how to spin you a web of bullshit without saying ‘I’m not going to get paid if you cancel’. No shit dude.

This is a WILDLY unprofessional response from them.

“Hey bud, there’s a whole lot of not my problem in there. If we can cancel the order I might consider buying other stuff in the future, but this is an incredibly unprofessional approach to sales and if the pay isn’t working for you that is unfortunate. It’s also unfortunate that another retailer is able to find me a more functional deal. That’s just how it goes sometimes.”

I mean, stick to your guns and everything but to me it's not shocking. That's one reason I never give out my phone number to people who I buy from. I don't like that sort of pressure put on me in real time in person. Even if the plea/pitch were structured in a more professional way without trying to evoke some blend of guilt and pity. Email is a good response option, and along the lines of what ian_dissonance said above, you could say, look, a Stadium is a Stadium and the only difference is cost and [your employer] wasn't competitive enough this time.

I can only recall one time in my life where I've asked for a discount from a retailer who wasn't selling cars. It was my Stadium XL preorder. And it worked! Not as big a discount as a lot of guys are reporting, but it amounts to GC picking up my sales tax bill for me.

Just switch to GC or MF - I bet if you ordered now, you'd still get it earlier than you'd get it via SW.....and the online gear advisors don't do this kind of stuff.

Mine's at GC, a straight online order, and it was one of the ones that got pulled off the truck last week. I don't have a "rep" at GC, just made a cold call to whoever picked up their customer service line and said the coupon code you sent me didn't work on a (preexisting) Helix Stadium preorder. Turns out the coupon expired long before any Stadiums would ship (and they would get any money from me). I asked, "No way to make an exception?" he said not with that code but he could give me something over half the percentage of the code off and I took it.

Yep. I dumped my order as soon as I found out I could get it a dollar cheaper than SW. I gave them the option of helping me out, they wouldn’t budge, I canceled. Tell me how other people can discount this stuff 15-20% but SW of all companies can’t?

Something doesn’t add up.

I’m about to delete my SW account all together.

Really is all about who you get, which is indeed a shame. The sales engineer concept can be both a benefit and a detriment.

It’s nice to have a familiar voice / name to go to for gear stuff; I’ve just never had a rep who was a true “advocate” for me. Most of the time I know more about the things I’m looking at, he doesn’t have an opinion one way or another, and like others have said, a Helix Stadium in a box is a Helix Stadium in a box. I don’t care who sends it to me.
