Did JNC just get PWNED by JHS???

I wonder how his dealers will feel about his disclosing approximate B2B costs at around the 9:30 mark. Remember when things like that were closely guarded secrets? Now I know exactly how hard to beat up my Sweetwater guy LOL.
Yeah good luck with that. Do you think Sweetwater make those "margins" free and clear or do they also have a crazy overhead in the cost of their building, website, payroll, commissions, taxes, utilities, shipping product returns etc?
The actual profits in this industry are a lot smaller than you think.

I'm pretty sure he was joking.
Imagine that. ;)

On the other hand... Way, way back when I was working at GC, you could see any given product's cost on the computer/ cash register you were working when trying to negotiate a price with a customer. Below a certain margin it was, "Let me talk to my manager." And more than once, I've had salesmen turn that computer around so they could show me (the customer) that they couldn't go any lower.

@Boudoir Guitar, "Kyle knows." (He may not admit it...)

Obviously, consistently selling products for the same amount you buy them at isn't going to keep the lights on, for those so kind as to point that out to me. I'm not a schmuck. Or not that particular sort of schmuck, at least. (P.S. Please stop telling me what I think LOL. )

I worked at an electronics retailer many many years ago and had the same experiences as you. We could see the cost price on the till system and above a certain level could do what we needed to to get sales. The better sales people who made the most money had more leeway than others.

It's expensive to run any business in the US, period. Disclosing margins doesn't mean JHS (or any other company) is diving through gold coins. Same goes for the 30-40% margins for retailers. It's not cheap to run those, either.

I wish guitar players would go back to pushing T shirts to make a buck, instead of pushing "content" or "content about content" or "content about content about content"

die kill me GIF by South Park

I kind of find it nostalgic.

Look at hip hop. Was underground. With some artists breaking through. Now, it lives mostly underground. With some artists known by the general public.

Bands are probably also like that. There must be great bands out there but my Spotify algorithm doesn’t go further than Chris Stapleton, Gary Clark jr and The Black Keys (a bit of an exaggeration). Same on YouTube.

All these content pushers have a niche. That’s what they do.

"I'm so glad I spent an hour listening to this dude talk about JHS - maker of $200 pedals, most of which I can find a functionally equivalent Behringer version of for $40 on Reverb and creator of content that fetishizes pedal collecting - talking about JNC talking about JHS. I'm so inspired to make more music now with the gear I already own. But first, I'm going to like and subscribe and leave a comment and go watch 4 hours of TrueFire videos without a guitar in my lap each one either thinking 'I already know all of this' or 'this is way over my head'. Surely his is the path to More Music with Less Gear."
