I detest his videos and feel annoyed every time one of his things pops up on YT when I'm looking into how specific pedals sound. I'd rather listen to the stoner from Gearwire play.

I'm kinda bummed with how JNC has leaned into the clickbait. I was a very early subscriber and appreciated his quality playing combined with trying to be fairly impartial and inquisitive.
But these "how much should these cost" videos tend to be absolute nonsense. Having worked in finance for many, many years, there's so much more that goes into cost and profitability than simply the cost of the parts and labor to assemble. Even if you were to account for all kinds of factors most people forget (benefits, payroll taxes, income taxes, marketing, shipping/logistics, rent, depreciation of machinery, finance/accounting, all the other overhead with running a business), there's very likely a specific model associated with a project like the Ross relaunch. Josh would have to sell a certain number at a certain cost to make the project worthwhile financially, and nobody but JHS would know that number.
At the end of the day it makes a lot more sense to ask yourself what a pedal is worth to you. Should you spend $200 on a boutique fuzz pedal if you can get a Mooer fuzz clone for $50? Or would you rather make the purchase from a small builder?
