Did JNC just get PWNED by JHS???

For example, I can’t stand the Beatles and think they suck ass. But I’m also self aware that that is a very subjective opinion and one not shared by many aside from maybe @JiveTurkey

But I can also acknowledge that by whatever metrics yeah they were pretty legendary songwriters and a cultural phenomena unmatched to this day, and they influenced and are loved by plenty of artists that I do actually love

Are you comparing Cordy to The Beatles now??

oh my god omg GIF by Hell's Kitchen

Obviously, people are free to criticize whatever they want to about Cordy. But when folks start piling on in threads bashing his YouTube content with comments about him playing regurgitated Eric Johnson licks its like the kid at the lunch table that starts every sentence with the word "actually".

I was in a guitar shop a couple of weeks ago and someone was playing an EJ thin line: "I love Eric Johnson. I can't believe he plays all that crazy stuff on these big old vintage style necks." Know-it-all-dude "Actually, his playing is mostly just triads...it's really quite simple musically, and once you get the picking patterns down not that complicated technically." Know-it-all-dude never picked up a guitar to show how simple EJ's playing was musically or technically, of course.

I don't know that Know-it-all-dude struggles with the technique involved with playing in a Black Keys cover band; or that he isn't writing/improvising anything "more complicated" than "simple" pentatonic ideas...but absent any additional evidence, he sure seemed like a big ol' douche rocket to me.

OMG!

way I see it these guys are making a living, so there ain't nothing wrong with that, if we like them we can pick and choose what we want if we don't nothing is forcing us to watch
Sure theres lots of clickbait, thats no different than a brand or store making ads to try and lure potential customers

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When it comes to regular old gear demos/discussion, I totally agree with this.

But this particular context, Cordy’s original vid that started this, I don’t believe it did anyone any favors. It was akin to those Celebrity Networth sites that base their conclusions off album sales/general cost of a CD, ticket sales, etc. It’s so off the mark and just gets people believing something other than reality.

And more so in the case of JHS; that dude already gets an absurd amount of hate for no legitimate reason. I believe he does far more good for the pedal/gear world than bad, between his historian videos and the 3 line alone. He said he wanted to make that 3 line just so there’d be a decent quality pedal available on the cheap, like we got to experience with DOD/Boss back in the day.

While I do appreciate the transparency/look behind the curtain that came as a result, there’s already enough cynicism around gear, especially if that gear is featured in a YouTube vid. Maybe it’s because it’s a pet peeve of mine, but cynicism based off an objectionably wrong idea is shitty.

The thing is if you are going to review gear you should know what you’re talking about and he is clueless. It’s perfectly valid to say if you like it but you should be able to say why exactly and back that up with facts. Gear reviews should contain an objective assessment whatever you are looking at AND a personal preference . Most reviewers are not really any good. To do it justice you need vast experience with what else is available, who is making it , how well it holds up .

Personally I think if he’s going to be a YouTuber,
Well… he is. :rofl
then actually learn wtf you’re doing with lighting and shit. His videos look like crap, and shit goes out of focus, colors all over the place, etc. use some of that JHS bashing ad revenue to up your game. 🤣
true. He has always been sloppy with that. I remember the early videos. The content and topics has always been good (not great) sprinkled with actual nice playing and stuff. But looks… nah… that’s not his game. Never been. I let it slide because of his personality.

Imo when a YouTuber has really good content the looks is secondary. I hate when people make professional looking stuff that has no whatsoever real or genuine story/content

Well,

“I can’t stand Cordys guitar playing”

Would be a valid criticism

“Cordy sucks at guitar”

Is not

Is what I think the distinction is :idk

But even that can start getting into the weeds as I think that there’s plenty of musicians that might be “objectively not skilled” and still create great art (of course that also drifts from objective to subjective)

And now I feel like shits getting too philosophical

Don’t you dare mention Keef :puppet

Anyway. Stop the Cordy talk. He will be a millionaire ripping us off with his charm getting us to click every video he made. Next video he’ll be on a yacht thanking Josh for the support of his channel.

Musiciswin. Do we need to discuss him?
No.

In the early days, excellent educational content. He’s talented and schooled, and managed to teach invaluable stuff. Haven’t watched him in years, but I recall getting tired of his jargon and “image”. There was also a developing “luxurious” theme to his channel that I didn’t care for. I have nothing against CC’s getting rich. But i don’t need it rubbed in my eyes…
