Maybe so. But then again, stand alone poweramps have become fairly popular in the last few years.

At the very least, I wonder how viable it would be for Laney to just design a passive replacement backplate for those cabs and maybe only produce them made-to-order or something.

Think so? I think there’s a definite lacking in good power amps, particularly good solid state power amps that aren’t massive PA-orientated power amps. Matrix was cool, but they’re all but defunct.

Yeah. I am scratching my head over this. Part of the deal with modellers and "FRFR" and IEMs
is the whole reduced stage volume thing that is part and parcel of these new trends. How does
this fit in with that?

I just don't see where it does. I can't see where the use case is for these at $2k. Has Laney or Devin
not been on CL or FB Marketplace noting all the 4 x 12 cabs that people cannot give away.

Apples/oranges. A regular guitar cab can’t blast IR’s and trumpets at 2600w.

I don’t think it’s trying to fit ‘in’ with the silent stage gear, at most it has DI outs on the back to feed FOH. I think it’s filling the gap on the opposing side of that fence. I’m all for the idea, just not at that price.

Just because it is Dev Townsend doesn't mean anyone (other than Dev and Laney)
has to defend this nonsensical piece of kit.

It's not cheap. It's not light. It doesn't fill a gaping need in the market. It doesn't
accomplish anything that can't be done cheaper, better, and lighter with already
existing gear.

Check. Check. Check. Check.

I'd love to hear one. I'm curious about the low end.

Most "FRFR" speakers I know about are only relatively flat from the treble down to the low mids. None of them I've heard actually have the real thump and wallop of a 4x12 cab. If you're using a normal "FRFR" cab, you'd just about need a separate sub for that kind of punch. I'm wondering if the same is true for these 4x12 cabs.
