It ain’t the GIFs or jokes, it’s the people who can’t control themselves and lose their shit every time they see something that they disagree with. Mature adults will just shake their heads or roll their eyes and move on without dwelling on it.

The few have ruined it for the many, unfortunately.

The last blow up showed far too much lacking in logic to allow any of it.

Shit, I'll detail it for ya quickly- Eagle posted a meme that norminal took offense to at 4AM while we were all sleeping. Instead of reporting it and moving on, he opted to start fighting with Eagle in the thread while accusing us of having one-sided rules and favoring Eagle's "team" over norminal's "team" and 2 hours later I woke up to a PM from norminal asking to delete his account because he was sick of the lack of our ability to uphold the rules.

But the kicker is, norminal had been posting plenty of his own 'it's not politics but it's obviously poltics' memes and gifs for quite a while leading up to that, he was never warned and never had anything deleted because they were never reported and no one took offense to them.

That shit is just too illogical to deal with, politics have broken the brains of many in the last decade. I get paid pretty decently to handle BS and a lack of logic at work, but I sure as fuck am not going to put that money into a place where I have to continue handling a lack of logic and BS when I don't have to.

The second we feel the gifs can be brought back we'll do it, but I'm not confident that'll happen any time soon.

You cannot have a rational discussion with an emotionally driven person, because only one viewpoint is acceptable to them and any deviation from that is taken as a personal affront. This is precisely why certain topics are forbidden on most forums.

I always enjoyed his posts. I didn't really find out about the memes/gifs until after he was gone as I'm not much of a 'I want to see several memes in a row" person so I never check the funny pic thread, but as for gear/music talk he was a welcomed presence here, IMO.

I'm having a serious question (maybe it's not exactly a real question): We all know that many popular musicians have a pretty strong opinion on political things. And I'm not even talking about what they're doing in their freetime but what's in their lyrics. And there's a huge tradition of political opinions finding their way into song lyrics, in fact, an entire genre ("protest songs") has been named after that fact.
And while this hasn't happened yet (at least AFAICS): Is it allowed to discuss song lyrics here? Because that'd pretty much instantly take us into political territory.

I'm asking because it's a pretty hot topic on a german (recording related) forum. There's a "lyrics" subforum over there and while the general consensus of the forum is "no politics" as well, there's necessarily some politcal content in that very lyrics subforum. The mods over there are actually handling it pretty well as in allowing some but placing warnings when things seem to get out of hand. Most users will then actually follow those warnings (or lose write permissions in the very thread).

As said, I don't think it has happened here yet, but someone may as well post a clip with lyrics including a strong political background.

Valid question, but this place is a haven for metal and hard rock. The lyrics we would be discussing are pretty far removed from protest songs and stuff like that, so it's probably a problem that would not arise here with the present crowd.
