The Gear Forum is for two thing: gear and humor. AxeFX, Helix, Mesa Badlanders, Plexis, boutique nonsense, tone chasing, and maybe a little shame over how much you’ve spent. It is not for political opinions, religious beliefs, or social commentary disguised as memes.

Here’s what that means in plain English:

What Counts as Political?

  • Politicians, elections, protests, laws, wars, global events, anything related to economic ramifications as a result of political shit
  • Jokes, memes, or rants about any of the above
  • Crying about free speech when your post gets deleted
  • GIFS Utilizing Political Figures (I know. We didn't want to do it, hopefully it's temporary. No more Trump's "Wrong" or Biden's 'WTF?" GIFS)

What Counts as Religious?

  • Mentions of gods, belief systems, churches, atheism
  • “Inspirational” posts or jabs at religion disguised as humor
  • Holy war debates — take that to Reddit

What Counts as Social Issues?

  • Topics like gender, race, identity, wealth, climate
  • “Just asking questions” posts with a clear agenda
  • Edgy memes that aren’t about gear but sure as hell stir the pot
If it would cause a fight at a family dinner or start a flame war on Facebook, don’t post it here.

Penalties (Quick and Painful):

  • First offense: 2-day ban + removal from the Official Original (LOL) Funny Picture Thread! \m/
  • Second offense: Account review. We might ban you for as long as NDSP takes to update the Quad Cortex (which, let’s be honest, might be forever), or we’ll just delete your account like a factory preset no one uses.

No Loopholes:

No GIFs. No memes. No coy little “just saying” posts. If you try to skirt the rules, you’ll get treated like you broke them outright. Don’t test us. Play stupid about it or play the semantics game, it'll be considered your Second Offense because that's insulting to your own intelligence, never mind ours.

This Is Not The Gear Page:

We’re not turning into that cesspool where threads spiral into gear elitism, tone lawyering, and long-ass lectures nobody asked for.
Also, don’t use the report button as a weapon to fight your petty battles. If you weaponize the report tool to tattletale over stupid drama, we reserve the right to publicly post your reports for forum-wide ridicule.

Note- @Lorne Malvo, @The Colonel and @David Lo Pan and I all moderate this place. If either of us see something that's likely to drag the community down it's our prerogative to take action. Sometimes it's a deleted post and sometimes it's a thread ban. Thread bans will generally be 24-48 hours to allow some cihllout time, unless you were a major fuckstick and then it'll be permanent.

Final Word:

We fucking love this place and the people in it.
We hate banning anyone — it ruins our vibe and means you disrespected the community enough to make us babysit grown-ass adults. Don’t make us mod when we could be tweaking rigs.

Stick to gear. Stick to pickles. Don’t be a jackass. Post your rig. Pretend you’re not eyeing another amp this month.

Figured I'd open this up for today in case anyone has any questions. I know this is all clearly stated, but would prefer to get it all covered now in the same thread so anything here can be used for reference.

If talking about experiences in the worship band should the fact that it’s a worship band be left out? That is actually not that hard. Just call it “the band” and not “The worship band”. It’s just an innocuous fact in the conversation.

Is making fun of the worship band allowed because almost every worship band member makes fun of the music and musicians.

All of the forums I frequent view worship as a genre, as it generally has a fairly specific sound. There's never an issue unless somebody who is not part of that scene busts in and tries to stir shit up, and those people are typically dealt with individually instead of carpet bombing the whole discussion.

Makes sense. I do jab at the genre but never at religion.

I think there's a few topics that are really hard to talk about without bringing at least a bit of politics into it. T-words have an effect on a lot of us, and you can't talk about the Ukraine made Crab amps or St. Rock gear without considering the war going on when it comes to just buying that gear.

There is a way to talk about policy and its effects on us gear hounds in a neutral manner. It just seems impossible to achieve on forums - or the family dinner table for that matter. Some jackass will inevitably get their panties in a twist because they treat their politicians like sports teams. If we could just collectively agree that most politicians suck in every country, we would be better off.

So I totally understand moderators just don't want to deal with that shit.

The bickering recently has (for me) lessened my enthusiasm for coming here. As membership grows it's inevitable. Maintaining the original direction of this forum is worthwhile, and unfortunately drawing lines in the sand and enforcing them is likely the best way forward. Thanks @DrewJD82.

I don’t see anything wrong with noting it’s a worship band or putting the P&W title on it, nor the ballbusting around lush, cascading delays into reverbs!

Indeed. Good time to note here that while there’s 4 of us mods, this place is now big enough where we can’t see everything all the time, or we might not be in your time zone and we’re sleeping, so if someone is being a dick we need to know about it. A regular member quit this week because someone made a political post, which did not get reported and it occurred at 3:30AM Eastern. I don’t even wake up for work until 5:15am Eastern. Instead, I wake up to a PM telling me to delete an account because nothing got done while we were sleeping. :facepalm
Totally understand the "NO VAN HALEN CLIPS!111!!!" rule.

That's what got me perma-bant from Rigged Talk 18 times.

:cop

That was Ben Waylon, not Van Halen. :rofl

This is spot on. I haven’t even caught up on the threads I want to since Saturday as I’ve been spending the majority of my time here in PM’s with angry members or the other mods discussing thread bans and shit about rules. While it comes with the territory, spending 2.5 days on that shit is a drag.

That said, we’ve gotten by in the last couple of years on a ‘we’re still figuring things out’ basis ourselves and we had room for improvement on our end and most likely always will to some degree. We might have to take action via thread ban more often than we previously did, but retaining the vibe of this place is our biggest priority and I strongly believe a couple days in timeout from a single thread beats the hell out of a several day ban from the entire forum.

All in all, if everyone follows the rules and our core members at least try to not engage in the TGP-style bickering, every little ting is going to be alright.

Nothing changed about forum members stalking other forum members endlessly ??
Let me put this to you as directly as I can. This is a free to join and use forum. The people that own and maintain it foot that bill that provides this ad free experience. If you don't like something, report it, use the tools available to you to use the forum in the way that is enjoyable to you or move on. Hope this clears that up for you.
