Brent Hinds no longer in Mastodon

If Mastodon is a "Boomer Band" Herr Henson I am not selling all of my gear. I am putting it
in a big ass pile and lighting it on fire---along with the signed Pic you sent me for my B'day
last year.

Now I am logging off the Internet, because I can't handle the next thing it is going to
send my way. That Mastodon is the equivalent of Maiden and/or Floyd is a riddle my
brain can't handle.

This may all be tied to the B Hinds and Matt Pike doing a project together?

Maybe that is finally coming to fruition?

Could be a win for everyone.

Also, the B Hinds quote about "hating Metal" is from 2015, and not a direct
quote about parting ways with Mastodon.

I'm not sure if the hating metal thing is him just being a goof or what. There's plenty of pics of him wearing t-shirts with metal bands on them like Slayer and Motorhead. So, unless he's being ironic...:idk

He clarified that later-

"[The Guitar Player quote] was taken out of context. I said 'I fucking hate most heavy metal,' is what I said. I don't like a lot of it. There's a lot of cookie-cutter bullshit out there, in my opinion, and I don't like it. So I was just being honest. And they just took the 'a lot' out and just put 'Brent Hinds hates metal … These guys, I mean, they need people to come by and visit their web site, and how are they gonna do that without taking people's quotes out of context? They've gotta somehow sell magazines, so I can understand why they're doing it. But just keep me out of it. I don't really do that many interviews because of that kind of stuff."

Ultimately, there’s a multitude of reasons this could have happened and I doubt we’ll ever hear the full story or details of how it went down.

Mastodon is one of those bands that I SHOULD like and never get fully into. I LOVE the first song on Crack the Skye because it sounds as close to Soundgarden as I've ever heard without trying to rip them off. It definitely seems like Hinds is off the rails either mentally or chemically.

Super happy for Ben Eller to get some love though, I saw this on FB this morning and the comments were all overwhelmingly positive. Just a good dude.

One of my all time favorite bands is Dance Gavin Dance. They're on their fourth lead vocalist in under 20 years. Bands can go through significant lineup changes and still be amazing, so long as they write good songs around the singer's style.

While I understand the sentiment behind "NEVER CHANGE MEMBERS"; it just isn't that simple. And you also shouldn't expect the rest of the people sticking around, who busted their butts; to just dump everything and start from scratch because one person suddenly goes AWOL for whatever reason. Let the people decide with their wallets.

Ask Tim Henson what he thinks. :rofl

When Tim writes one song that comes fractionally close to being as badass as a Mastodon tune, I’ll listen to his opinion.
Maybe a need for a separate thread but any thoughts on a top 5 mastodon song list to I can prepare for the concert I'm seeing them at 😬

Well, if you were given the choice of a listening preference between 70’s prog rock and caveman metal, which direction would you go? Cuz they started off as caveman metal but have gradually gone down the 70’s prog route with clean vocals and pretty melodies.

Picking just 5-10 songs of Mastodon is almost impossible imo. Each album is it's own thing to the point that I don't like separating the tracks.

If you want an arguable peak; listen to Blood Mountain and Crystal Skull. If you want to go rougher; hit up Leviathan. If you want "mellower" but still catchy without too much melancholy and plenty of rock level heaviness; do Once More Round the Sun and/or the Hunter. They're all stellar in their own ways.
