Boss GM-800 and GK-5

I edited my original posts lol. Works great for me. I don't seem to notice anything different, except I swear it tracks a little better with gk-5 then it did with gk-2a when I first tried it all together before I got gk-5.

Dumb question perhaps. Does the individual guitar's pickup settings still matter when using the conversion boxes?

Yeah I still have it set up in sy-1000 and still need to set string levels and such.

About freaking time.... Almost 4 months later and they finally released a new SDZ Zen-core pack. Still odd they released one or two every single month since starting these and now this big break. Hopefully they get back too it monthly!

So there's a fw update supporting an incoming 7 string gk pickup. And somehow pulling normal pickup audio from the GK in jack?

No idea how that will be pulled off because Boss.

So.. Guitar modeling unit next! Most likely it'll be in the gm-800 form factor with no synthesizers probably because why since the gm-800 is out and they will want you to serial connect them with the gk serial cables and to make you get the gm-800 if you don't have it already. I hope they add more guitar options though for electric and bass and acoustics. Also give us the vg-99 option of moving the pickups anywhere on the virtual guitar, and give us more pickup options and more oriental instruments too etc.

Heard word on a GM-800 user who has done the firmware update, and says the tracking and latency is now up there with the Fishman Triple Play, and stability is better than the Fishman.
Yet to do the update on mine, should I tempt fate with updating the firmware a day before I need to use it live.

I have been going back and forth on whether or not to upgrade before Fridays gig.

It definitely feels better and faster, mainly on the low E and A strings on guitar as they were the ones that were more laggy / sluggish. That's about all I notice.

Just make sure you update all 3. The gm-800, the BTS and driver. Unless of course you don't care about hooking to computer then the last two I wouldn't worry about.

Did the update earlier this week. Played a gig last night with it and the improvements were VERY apparent. Tracking was much better and I lost all the stuck notes I've been dealing with. Good job Boss.

I know! I was really rolling the dice because we had pro sound last night (aka 50kwattsorwtever of power with EVERYTHING going through the PA aka bum flute notes would not be able to hide). My stuck notes disappeared and the tracking was a bit smoother.

Once I started in on this dumb ass turn your guitar into a trombone journey; I've had to compensate for latency in the system in my playing dynamics, note choice in relation to the neck position and especially timing to let the unit "catch up" to my playing. I could feel a palpable difference in that timing adjustment last night where I had to let some of that over cautious playing slide away and get back on beat.

I've been holding out on grabbing another GM for backup and to incorporate into my III rig. This has gone a LONG way towards making that a viable decision.

Awesome, good news all around :) I never had any bummed notes since I got mine last summer other than when I was using a gk-2a pickup and a non name brand 13-pin cable. Once I switched over to the new gk-5 and serial cable it never happened again! :) And yes this last update, I can feel the tracking improved a bit especially for the low E and A strings. They don't feel as slow / sluggish as they did.

I updated but not tried it yet. It was the third gear firmware update of the day (Arturia PolyBrute and Yamaha CP73 being the others). I can't keep up with it all (first world problem).
