Before i start im a 80year old guitarist been playing since 1963 and alot of tech has changed since then.
my eqiupment consists of a fender amp, fender telecaster thinline, boss gm 800, and a emu b3 organ module and a few other bits,
problem i have is i have gone from the midi from the gm 800 to the emu b3. heving outputs from both of these i use a volume pedal on the emu b3 for the hammonds sounds but dont use the outputs from the boss gb 800 as would need another volume pedal for it ,i dont know if there is a double volume pedal so i could use both in and outputs ,or a A B switch that could take inpiuts from emu b3 and the boss gm 800 and one ouput to a single volume pedal,
so its a expensive just to have a boss gm 800 just for the midi , hope this makes sense. i tried a roland foot pedal controller which i can change patches on both units but still have seperate outputs
any ideas please

Are you looking to control both volumes at the same time (meaning lower both or raise both)? Or have it where you roll between them (like heel down is one pedal and toe down is the other)?

not at same time ,i play in a church worship band so some sngs hammond (emu b3) and sometimes string maybe off the boss gm 800 so one volume pedal is ideal that i can switch between the two units

Jarick's question is the right one to start with.

Another thing to consider: is the GM800 capable of decent B3 sounds in its own right? It would simplify things considerably if you could eliminate the Emu from your rig.

If you want to do this all in the audio domain, you'll need a stereo pan pedal, to accept two independent audio ins, and pan between them. You might have to be a little creative summing them on the output side, and sometimes you have to experiment with signal buffering.

My preference would be to use a MIDI expression pedal to control volume for each device. (Or better still just one, having eliminated the other.) For instance, the EV-1-WL would allow you to crossfade between the two, or program a volume pedal for each with toe-down switching between them. You'd still need to find a way to sum audio (e.g. with a passive mixer, or even just a Y cable) downstream, though.

Also distinguish between "switching" between the two voices, and "fading" between the two voices. If all you need is to switch, then adding an ABY pedal to your current rig should be sufficient.

Yeah I'm thinking ABY into a standard volume pedal. You can switch between your sources (or both) and then control with the single volume.

Or if you want to get fancy, you could add a second volume pedal to control each level individually, and then run into the ABY pedal to join the signals. The ABY pedal is probably cheaper and more reliable than a dedicated line mixer or selector pedal.

It's not even entirely clear that the volume pedal would still be necessary. Or whether it was to begin with?

I'm still waiting to be convinced the Emu is necessary. That thing's gotta be 25 years old, no?

There are dual expression pedals that could maybe be used, so you control the Boss in or out levels via expression.
  • Lehle Dual Expression. Ugly, but should be high quality.
  • Source Audio Dual Expression Pedal.
No experience with either.

Then there's the Hotone Tuner Press which contains both an expression out as well as volume pedal functionalities. Maybe that would work for your uses? Volume for the B3, expression for Boss?
