AXE I/O Driver and Software Download (anybody got this?)

I just picked up a used AXE I/O to try out and guess what... you can't download the Drivers or the Control Panel software without a Registration Code for the hardware (the little card that comes in the box with the code on it). You have to register the hardware using the IK Product Manager software in order to download the Driver and Control Panel software.

I don't have a code so "No Soup for You!" I guess. I've opened a tech support case to see if they can get me a code or the software somehow and posted over at TOP about this.

Anyone here have one of these AXE I/O interfaces (the Standard model, not the One or the Solo) "registered" that could post the Windows Driver and Control Panel download to Drop Box or some public download and help a Brother out?

Here is a link to all of the latest (as of this post) AXE I/O (Standard, One, Solo) interface software if you want to update your interface. These were provided to me from IK Support this week. It's one big 200mb zip with all the versions in it.

Are you going to give ToneX a shot with creating captures? I’m curious if their own hardware fairs any better/easier.

Probably still just going to go with a Nano Cortex.

I’ve had pretty good results with the Axe IO One creating captures. Its input circuit also sounds really nicely tuned for modeling. Garbage drivers, as you’d expect, even on Mac,

It's not a bug, it's a feature.
They hide the drivers so they can make extra money from selling transfer licenses every time someone resells their device.
They're a greedy company with awful UI and UX that I have no intention of ever giving any more money to.
 
Got one of these from a friend that used to post up here. Same problem. Completely STUPID on IK's account. So surprised :wat What happens if they (shock) update firmware? If you got it used, you're out of luck? :poop:Completely asinine as per usual for this idiotic company.
 
So far so good, crystal clear, no pops or crackles and low latency. Sounds excellent in the Tonex app too. For $150 it's a keeper. :rofl

I’ve got an Axe IO. I forgot about the quirk about registering to download the software. The latency is indeed pretty good for a guitar-centric interface of that time period.

I thought the instrument input was a bit bright compared to others, but it works with Amplitube.

The Amp Out is not hot enough to achieve unity gain. The reamp levels don’t hit the front end of an amp hard enough. It would work fine going into a power amp.

Yep. So far Amp Out is a big let down. Why wouldn't they at least set it to unity gain of one of the other outputs? It even has it's own volume control, which has no relation to the other outputs. Good grief!

Maybe this is the culprit?

Yeah that is definitely it. I remember needing to boost about 20dB to get the Axe IO to unity gain with the input gain pretty low. I was really bummed out about the amp out when I first used it.

I did already have reamp box around that same time. Going from Output 3 to a reamp box was my workaround until I upgraded my interface.

I still use the Axe IO with an old laptop occasionally because of the inputs and low latency. Mic preamps are pretty low noise. The noise floor was much better than similarly priced portable USB interfaces of the late 2010s.
 
Ok. I finally figured this thing out. Two things to note:

1. The stupid Amp Out volume out is literally tied to your Windows (or Mac I guess) computer volume level. Just by accident I was increasing my computer volume and, bam! up went the Amp Out gain. If you turn your Windows computer volume level all the way up... then your output gain on the Amp Out is increased to unity gain on Input 1 gain. They match 1:1 in the control panel.

2. The Z-Tone control and Input 1 Gain can be used in conjunction with the Amp Out to identically match the sound of your guitar plugged straight into the amp. I was able to A/B back and forth between being plugged straight into the amp vs. using Input 1 to dial in the the Gain and then the Z-Tone to shape the sound of what the Amp Out sends to the amp.

When I A/B between being plugged straight into the amp vs. being plugged into the interface the tone is indistinguishable. It's pretty nice to be able to adjust the Z-Tone to get the interface Amp Out to more closely match what my guitar would sound like plugged straight in. Very cool!

Now all I need to do is create some Tonex captures and see how it fares. I'm guessing these will turn out pretty damn nice as the interface going into the amp now matches what an actual guitar into the amp would sound like. Almost worth putting up with all the BS of this thing.
 
So I created one capture with it and it turned out great. Just like the captures I make with the AXE-FX 3 as the interface. I can get the same results with the Axe3 and it's already cabled into everything so this AXE I/O probably won't be doing much. Plus I can use the Axe3 to load an IR and capture an "Amp+Cab" in Tonex which I can't do with the AXE I/O. This was more of a "can I make it work" thing I guess.

All I really needed was a cheap microphone interface with phantom power and found a good deal on this goofy AXE I/O.

I haven't even plugged a mic into this damn thing yet. :facepalm
