Axe-FX (A Love Story?) Rd.1

That's one of the slightly older HW Series Vox's where they introduced a "Hot" Switch on the TB Channel.

Its the stock/standard TB Channel but when you engage the "Hot" Switch .... most-but-not-all of the Tone Stack is "lifted" / "removed" from the signal path circuit .... resulting in a much raw'er / gainier overdrive.

Its a *great* sound.

Yeah I went and looked at the amp wiki last night to figure out what it was. That’s the cool thing about a new platform, you don’t have the amp names memorized yet, and you have to listen with your ears on them. I probably would have skipped over it had I known, but it makes total sense because it’s thin, snappy, and has a ton of bite and clarity. Enabling the sat switch on it is what makes it really nice. Rounds out things enough to take away the abrasiveness. Super cool.

Dude hasn’t even gotten to the Mesa’s at the back of the list yet!

Trying to get through the amp list. :ROFLMAO:

I think I made it to Das Metal before my ears tapped out.

And that’s just for the dirty stuff. I haven’t done anything with the clean amps beyond loading up the SLO Clean, and the Carr Ambler accidentally. (Which was really cool)

Man, block out a good chunk of time for nothing but the FAS original amps. The FAS Brown and FAS Hot Rod are also Marshall variant champs, especially when you dial in the Saturation to your liking and play with the tonestacks.

@FractalAudio

Since you lurk here and might see this.

You have a legion of fans so you don’t need praise from a mouth breather like me, but this thing has been an absolute blast to play the last few days. This is probably the most amount of fun I’ve had playing a piece of gear in a long while, which I suppose should be the point of all this gear stuff.

Killer device. (y)

And if it’s not too soon for me to start making requests, a Friedman Steve Stevens V2 model would be epic. :ROFLMAO:
I can ask Dave Friedman for a schematic. Not sure how he would feel about that given that we're more competitors than before.

I went Helix>Kemper>Fractal. Totally converted now. The other two platforms sounded great initially,
but then I ran into struggles. Kemper is super compressed and too saggy for anything that needs
immediate attack. High gain was :barf Helix has this odd high-frequency plinkiness when using
gained up amps that I could never get rid of. And the Fender models never gave me the squish, sag,
and bloom I experience from actual Fender amps. :idk

The Fractal is as close as I have heard, and across all gain ranges with a variety of amps. You also
get the best customer support and ongoing updates of any of the platforms. No one else is really
even in the same ballpark in that regard.

Being a notoriously persnickety fella, I am constantly blown away by Fractal. :beer
but..you need to go fender TMP NOW..

Figured out importing block libraries and imported Sir Leon Todd’s block library. Fantastic.

Patch using Leon’s Everyday Comp, TC SCF Stereo, DMM Chorus and Blackhole blocks…

Great stuff @2112

:beer

Which reminds me, the Deluxe Memory Man model is amazingly good. I’m digging pairing that with the Tunnel reverb for some great dark and depressing tones. :ROFLMAO:

@JiveTurkey let's invite Dave to the forum and have this out. :D

I may have floated the idea of having ToneTalk’s home on the internet being here at TGF to Marc Huzanksy and he had some interest. It’s an awkward position to be in of “Hey, I’m definitely hitting you up because my idea is a benefit to myself, but it’ll also benefit you“ and if something doesn’t happen right away, you feel like a turd going back and bugging them over and over. Marc lives close by so I’m waiting ‘til we both go to a show and then I’ll get him hammered, by the time the show’s over he’ll love this place without even seeing it yet.

I believe his band is doing a show in that area in November. Maybe a time to seize the moment, Drew!

I like Marc a whole lot more than Dave.
