Atomic Tonocracy (Inc NAM support)

Tonocracy is now 2.0 and free.

One thing I always hated about helix ecosystem is the sliders instead of knobs. The Tonocracy UI is spartan at best, but I've not run into any issues using it yet.

Fwiw, as this question was raised on a german forum (can't check anything myself on my vintage computer): As NAM seems to be updated to work in a 44.1kHz environment as well, will Tonocracy see an update, too?

UI improvements aside two key features would allow Tonocracy users to cover most of the bases:
  • Support Plugins. That let's people use any effect they want or any cab sim tool they want.
  • Midi control. They are going to need this for the hardware version anyway....
Alternatively, they could improve how it works as a plugin and let the DAW handle the above, but that would be a shame.

I´ve been playing Tonocracy for a couple days. I really enjoy it. As is, it´s still halfbaked. Too few effects, too few amps, horrible tuner... But it´s great to play.

I basicaly don´t care for NAM loader but for my own profiles. And even that, I´m passing... because when I made my profiles, the gain ended up mismatched so I need to add a +20 db in front of the loader. And just in front of the loader, because I don´t want the rest of pre effects to be affected by that +20 db. When I think about this, with my own profiles... who knows how other people profiles are made! At least, with my profiles I can compare it to the real amp and find out the correct boost I need to stack before the loader. So all in all... I´m passing NAM and only using provided tonesnaps and sims.

And I´m really digging it. Not missing NAM at all. The interface is calibrated by its own tool, so tonesnaps are where they have to be (gain wise), and they sound fantastic.

So I´m pretty curious about the hardware they say they´re launching. If it has more amps and effects, it sounds like Tonocracy, and the hardware quality is similar to the Amplifires, but with useable and up to the times UI... then it´ll be a unit to be seriously considered.

I've been playing it a bit more as well. Overall sounds pretty good. But still wondering if I'm setting something incorrectly because I get slightly odd output sometimes - doesn't matter if it's factory, nam capture or o ToneSnap

Using Helix as my interface input at 11.5db blank preset, guitar pad off in-z set to 1M.

Sometimes it sounds like the dry and effected/captured signal are coming through together. It seems like it's just an output level adjustment to remedy most times, but still wondering if I'm setting something incorrectly.

Thoughts?

Tried it last night and spent most of the day today playing. This thing is amazing.

On my Apple M1 MBP, I paired a Marshall 800 capture with the included SD-1, ML MARS PR-M75 cab, with Valhalla Supermassive (tweaked EightVoiceChorus preset) on Mainstage (with a touch of SilverVerb at the end) and it was Zakk Wylde day with my Les Paul.

By far, the best tone I’ve ever gotten using *free* plugins. By far.

I'm gonna spend some time trying the capture-tech in this tomorrow. Just don't like the fact the training is in the cloud. But I will take a look.

The ONLY time I have anything 'unpredictable' sounding with Tonoracy is when I accidentally highlight a 'wrong' block and drag or double-click a 'wrong' thing into it. . .i.e. I'm trying to change an AMP and I accidentally put it in the CAB, or DRIVE block, etc. Then I have to hit UNDO and re-do the process. Since I've been using loads of captures I've found on the net , in tonehunt , etc many are totally different volumes, so that's the only other issue I've had to deal with. Not sure if any of this helps you , but it seems very easy to use, other than the ability to put wrong things in wrong blocks NOT being blocked :) Good luck
