Years ago, I used to record every amp I got with the Rose of Sharyn DIs and backing track that were circling the Internet back then. This gave me a pretty good reference point to see how one amp compared to another, in a high gain setting, but it was also never without it's faults. Since I was recording a cab with a single SM57 and I also sold and bought cabs frequently, the difference in cab or even slight movement in mic placement could give fairly drastic changes in EQ.
Now that load boxes and good IRs are more prevalent, I'd love to start reamping and cataloguing amps again, but I love how YouTubers like @GuitarJon demo amps with multiple genres. I could always record myself playing some different songs like this, but I'm not a jazz, blues, classic rock, etc player and it's very evident when I play these. I can get good tones, but as a metal player for the last 20ish years, you can hear it in my phrasing and even how I play notes.
Are there any good DIs you guys have run across, preferably with solid backing tracks, you can pass along that cover multiple genres?
