" A.I IR's " .... todays installment of better-IR Tech .... brought to you by ...

Video tape this, and then post it on YouTube with a slack-jawed photo of yourself, and an "I made a HUGE mistake" caption.

Hell, I don't even care if your boss is in on the joke. :rofl

Since I generally walk in and start with “I did something stupid….”, she might appreciate the softer entrance. I’m going to have to learn some P&W music for her, though!

Such a weird medium…..

I’m trying to think of any situation where I fucked something up, then walked in to apologize/explain myself and started by noodling on my guitar first without it being really fuckin’ weird. Gonna try this on my boss.
Its like those Cordy videos, but he doesn't seem to be such a putz

Basically it seems like combining what he prefers for EQ, what is used as recording tricks and what Chat GPT recommended.

So it's straight up bullshit to call these AI because there's no machine learning component in the actual processing to create these IRs.

Now, you could probably feed a dataset of tons of IRs to a ML framework and get something that is capable of making "AI IRs" but it also seems like a pretty pointless thing to do when it won't offer you anything you can't achieve with convolution methods.
If this is really the case I would have called them AI+HD (Human Dumbness)

Wow Has he been doing this in-baked EQ baking trick before the "AI revolution" happened?

Don't think there's anyway to find out. He sure does put out a tonne of profiles, really prolific.

Question I asked years ago on the Kemper Forums, and I'm not insinuating that HW is doing this at all, but: "If someone creates a profile with a load box and studio quality IRs, how do you know?"

On the Kemper Forums, there was a lot of a hoo-ha about how it would be violating IR creators' terms and conditions and would be illegal.

But just looking at all the profiles out there, you just got to wonder: is everyone doing the right thing, as defined by the Kemper owners?

I mean, if you create that stuff for your own use, it should be fine, but if you're selling it, how would anyone know?

Heck, there are even gray market sales and torrents of Kemper profiles.

This in-baked "AI EQ" thing is just another grey area in Kemperland, imho.

Yes. I have no proof, but also no doubts.

Processing IRs with a V-shaped EQ is a quick and dirty way to improve loudness and "wow" factor, specially for customers interested in high-gain tones.

Does he do high gain stuff, though? AFAIK, he does a lot of low gain tones.

That darn "V" shape gets 'em errytime.

Is there a new trend to market horribly sounding IRs?
Or is it the "AI" in the IR name automatically creating an unpleasant experience?
I mean, this AI stuff and the other "AI-the-Room" ones - I tried all the free ones and each of them is sounding horrible. I compared them to some HX cabs at their stock settings and there's just no comparison.
Really making me wonder...

Not sure if he specializes in those to be honest but, in any case, the effect applies to all sounds.

Evergreen:

Interesting video, Fletcher Munson Curve sums it up.

I don't think a V-shaped EQ makes everything sound better though. Far from it. Not everything is a Mark series amp.

Also, I really don't have skin in the game if HW has or hasn't been using EQs baked into his profiles. I've never bought any of his and don't have a Kemper anymore as well.

If he is baking in EQs, I'd question why anyone would see anything wrong In it as well. It's a grey area.

I mean, if I had a Kemper, I might honestly think to myself, "I need profiles of real setups", but there's no reason why an EQ would suddenly make the whole thing sound worse.

I mean, for example, if he is using EQ matching, the resultant profile might be much better than the original sound.

But it's just gimmicky in the end and not really a valid profile, to me at least. Nothing wrong with it, I would rather just use Ozone to EQ match myself, or just use my Axe FXIII instead.

This is all assuming he is using EQ matching. I don't know if he really created an AI programme to offer EQ suggestions. And I doubt he would show us what he is doing either.

He explains that's literally the case at one point over the 20-min announcement video for his "Ai Impulse Response Collection" - just a extra EQ, which is somehow produced by ChatGPT or something.

My wager is that this is not the time he's done it; this is just marketing lingo.

Oh, absolutely. I just hate snake oil salesman crap.
