And you’re welcome to. In my world the bIImaj7 is a minor subdominant as much as the IV-7 or iim7b5 and can do double duty for the V all day long.I would actually disagree as the bII root is taking one of the important notes away from the IIm7b5, namely it's root.
For me, a bIImaj7 is a more open sounding variation of a bII7 (tritone sub).
Jazz.Probably about 3 posts in for me and we actually covered this song for a hot minute![]()
A Db7 is a subVD♭⁷ in C is ♭2⁷. Anyone would recognize that as a tritone substitution.
We still play this oneCan y'all break down "Love Roller Coaster" next?

I wanna know what they call the 6th chord played in Smoke on the Water. What's that all about, in 'theory-speak?'Can y'all break down "Love Roller Coaster" next?

The bass is playing G, so G/C#?I wanna know what they call the 6th chord played in Smoke on the Water. What's that all about, in 'theory-speak?'
I suppose the proper way would be G/C#5.The bass is playing G, so G/C#?
My brain thinks of it in sharp terms.. so therefore I'm right. (in my own mind)Is it C# or Db? I have no clue, but from a scale perspective, I think of it as a flat 5 not a sharp 4.

That's not what I meant. I know how to name chords. The bass is playing G, so G/C#?

I mean, like how they're discussing chords in terms of a 'home key', and calling them a iib, or backdoor dominant (whatever the heck that is), or a tritone, etc.
