WTF Gibson!

This exactly.
I guess they really expect stores to set these up.

I have this conspiracy theory that the worst Gibsons are sent all the way to Finland, or at least the European distributor. I have never seen so many terrible Gibsons anywhere else. Japan had plenty of good ones, so did USA, France, UK etc.

It's been such a laundry list of issues that should not be on 2000+ € instruments that I refuse to buy Gibson at all. Bad finishes (e.g orange peel effect), major tooling marks on fretboard or nut, fretwork that is abysmal (flat fret tops, rough frets, gaps between binding and fret ends...), non-working electronics...

So not setting up the guitar properly to save a bit of time sounds exactly the kind of thing Gibson would do. Maybe their factory is not quite setup for the volume of guitars they try to put out so they end up cutting corners to meet those quotas.

PRS fret dress from factory is universally bad too.
It’s perfectly level but there is no fret end dress and they leave the tops flat. Some of the worst half finished dresses you see at this price point.
They should look like this;

I just refreted this in stainless steel.

This is a bad idea. The knot gets tighter going flat over a far longer time and then when it comes to changing them it often needs wire cutters to get them off. If you bring me a guitar with the strings knotted on for a set up I add to the price.
It’s not necessary, it doesn’t work as well as properly installed strings and can be harder to get them off.

Also people having tuning issues with Gibson should string like this;

One under two over and your tuning problems go away because now the angle over the nut isn’t the stupid 17 degrees. So you don’t need a new nut or locking tuners to keep it in tune.
I've always used the one over two under on guitars, which works pretty well - how do you get it to go under first then two over. Can't seem to get my head around it!

Sorry - been asked and answered, didn't realise there had been other replies as hadn't refreshed the page. As you were.

Love it! Knotting is dumb and best saved for your Nona and her knitting. :beer

My triple P90 Custom PRS will eventually need a refret. Going stainless, so I only need them to do it once....
